Kids get a bad rap in video games. Sometimes they’re beat up to pull emotional heartstrings, but mostly they’re just annoying. Is there a way for kids to be used or portrayed in games that isn’t exploitative or make you want to cause yourself bodily harm? Vinnk and Sean run down the appearances of children in games, from the NES all the way to the upcoming Mass Effect 3, across consoles and the PC. We also run down the history of unlicensed NES publisher Color Dream, and what their originally shocking games turned into.

First, congrats again to Sean!� Now, on to the baby games!

Since this is “Famicom” Dojo, how could you forget “Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa”? �It’s a good FDS/cart Konami platformer, starring a baby for some reason.

Since you mentioned unlicensed games, Wisdom Tree’s “Bible Adventures” has you running around holding baby Moses. �I always liked that one because you can throw baby Moses at enemies as if he were an SMB2 turnip.

While it’s not official, there is a rom hack of Super Dodge Ball on the NES that changes the dodge ball sprite into a baby: Baby Dodge Ball! �It’s probably my favorite “joke” rom hacking concept of all time.

Just wanted to say congrats one more time. There’s nothing like being a dad. I’m trying to my daughter into games as best as I can. She loved seeing the ending to SMB2 and seeing Wart die. Maybe it’s because I was playing with Peach. Girl power or something like that. Enjoy her while you can man!

Color Dreams is the Will Smith of video game developers. People hated their product (including me), but at the same time, they were geniuses when it came to what they did as far as circumventing Nintendo’s licensing policies. Just imagine if their titles were on the caliber of a Konami or Capcom back then.
