Hmm, I don’t know enough about Canadian price points, but I know you can get them for around $50 USD here.

As for features, the console comes with a modem — not terribly useful unless you have access to dialup.  Ethernet adapters exist, but they’re far more expensive than the consoles themselves.  Even if you could get online, SegaNet is down, but there might be some things that you want to get online for anyway.

I’d recommend picking up at least a few VMUs as well: those are the memory units that you use to store game data, among other features.  Don’t worry if you can’t find “new” ones — the batteries are easily replaceable.

Other than that, it’s just like any other disc-based system.  The only thing I can think of is that Dreamcast discs can’t be resurfaced. Something about the process makes them unreadable to the system.

As much as I would love for a campaign like this to work and prove that customers do have the power to sway a companies decisions, I can’t see it working out.  While I applaud the attempts at new ideas (the pre-orders and the letter campaign) over just saying “I want the game,” I think this is going to go the way of every other internet petition ever performed.

These games are sadly niche titles.  Regardless of quality, only rpg fans are likely to go out and buy them and looking over the market, I think the perception is that the xbox and ps3 are better choices for an rpg fan than the Wii (speaking as an rpg fan with a ps3).  I can’t speak for how true this is and Operation Rainfall’s campaign could very well prove me wrong.  But I suspect that unless the campaign pre-orders can cover a significant amount of the costs of releasing it here, I don’t really see Nintendo jumping on this.

No, I don’t think importing is illegal.  I hope not, anyway.
