MOTUC Mossman – All flocked up

Shortly after Mossman’s debut at SDCC 2009, problems were discovered with the flocking. Apparently the flocking was rubbing off at the points of articulation. This was early enough in the development life cycle for Mattel to play with the final result. After getting feedback from fans on the level of flocking, it seemed that Mattel was poised to do as much flocking on the action figure as the articulation would allow. The result? Mattel updated their facebook page the other day with photos of the finalized Mossman figure.

What is there to say? They flocked the shit out of that figure.

Some fans are not happy with the result and its stark differences from what was shown at SDCC 2009. Particularly the flocked ears.

What the flock? Sorry, had to.

Speaking as someone who doesn’t collect this line, I thought these pics looked kinda cool until I saw the side-by-side with the SDCC sample. Now I’m not sure which I’d give the edge to, although I agree that leaving the ears unflocked would have been better.

The mossman on the left features randomly applied flock which results in a flat matted look, whereas the mossman on the right has flock applied with an ion generator which causes the individual strands to stand up on end. This results is a more realistic furry look and makes the moss appear longer too.
