Playstation 3 Price Cut Official, Motorstorm/80 GB bundle on the way

Yes, we all saw it coming a mile away. Kotaku reports that Sony’s David Karraker announced the Sony PlayStation 3 will immediately begin selling for $499 in North America.

In addition, in August Sony will sell a model with a larger 80 GB hard drive installed and a copy of Motorstorm for the old price of $599.

OK, how about now? Is everyone done bitching about the price now? Oh you want more cuts? Sheesh.

Though I hope the deal in Canada is good. The price of the PS3 has actually gone UP by 40$ since December so I hope we get more than what is essentially a 60$ price cut from the original.
And Motorstorm is a truly horrible unplayeable piece of crap.

How is it overpriced? I think this has been gone over many times before, the PS3 is the greatest technical value of any console ever released. Its worth over a thousand in individual components and still costs sony well over the $600 asking price to produce. Thats not over priced, thats under priced. the hardware has real value even if you don’t think the games do.

Something being expensive to make does not mean it should be expensive. A broken 360 costs as much to make as a working 360 but it’s overpriced if it costs MSRP.

To say it’s not any less overpriced is just bad math. Even if you think the price should be 0$ then 500$ is less overpriced than 600$. 500$ is overpriced by 500$ and 600$ is overpriced by 600$ so 500 << 600. qed.

it’s weird how people only noticed the 60 gigs at 500 when the 40 gigs, (was it 40 or 20?) was at 500 at launch too. now with the 80 gigs coming out for 600, it just kinda went back to the same pricing plan as before.
