Prince Of Persia Directed By Michael Bay?

IESB reports that the Disney movie based on the very popular series The Prince Of Persia has a director and a release date: Michael Bay, Summer 2009.

Before the comments below are flooded with cracks about game movies, (or Michael Bay movies), consider this: Jerry Bruckheimer is producing the film, and after 3 gigantic Pirates Of The Carribean movies for Disney, they’re both looking for something that can be that kind of a hit. After all, theres a lot more to work with here for characters, plots, and concepts than Pirates, which was merely a ride. I’ve been on that ride. Its a slow boat passing animatronic pirates. Its nothing special. Sands Of Time is one of the most exciting action games of the last console generation. Loads of potential there.

As long as it’s not a cookie-cutter of Pirates too badly, and has some of it unique from what we’ve seen in the Pirates movies….it should prove to have great potential.

Wow is the first thing that came to my mind. As we all know POP series has a fairly solid storyline and lovable characters, I think this would be alot better than Pirates. If they can just keep the semi-dark mood of POP then I would really enjoy this movie.

Wow is also my first though. I will echo my usual sentiment about such things. We’re lucky if we don’t get a Double Dragon style movie. Bay isn’t the most popular man in the world but he’s good at directing action and I’ve liked a number of his movies. For a man of his noteriety to be attached to what I would consider to be one of the more unknown game franchises is truly great news for game movies. Looking forward to it.

And hey let’s start with the rumour mill. Johnny Depp as the lead?

Bay’s movies tend to have snappy dialogue, which goes perfectly with Prince of Persia. Given the kinds of action sequences we see in the Sands of Time trilogy, he also sounds well-suited.

So if they DO manage to make a movie out of each game, I might have renewed respect for Warrior Within…

Anyone think this will make up for the treatment of Persians in 300…? Hahahaha
