Mark Millar: “Games are for Pedos”
by Zac Shipley, filed in Civil War, Comics, Games, Marvel on Feb.28, 2007

Newsarama has an interview up with Marvel’s Mark Millar addressing questions about the recent event Civil War. Toward the end of the interview he unloaded quite a shock…
NRAMA: Finally, before we let you go, what is interesting you/what are you working on outside the realm of comic book publishing?MM: Like all my pals, the TV and movie people have come calling and even the computer game people (which is weird because games are for pedos and I have no interest).
Uh, what the hell is that supposed to mean, Mark? Are you a little bitter that video games have taken such a massive chunk of revenue out of your target audience?
If he dislikes games thats one thing, but this is kind of insane and I hope he didn’t mean that.

DoA Extreme is the only pedo game series available in the west that I’m aware of. What a moron.

Comics are more for pedos than games.

Declarative Rabbit says: Somehow, someway, video game fans apparently have less of a sense of humor than comic book fans.

I’m not sure how they have any more insight than us.

Opinions are like assholes. Sometimes they come from them, too.

The point being – I can’t really imagine Millar actually believes this. As he’s a comic book writer, and his friends are comic book writers, he’s surrounded by people that play video games to an unhealthy degree. It’s far more likely this is a jab at all of his friends, as he doesn’t seem play very much (based on his lack of interest in writing for them), and this is a fun way to point his finger and laugh at them.
Mark Millar? Being over the top? Who doesn’t expect that.

I tend to agree with Dru

If I believe he’s joking, I can’t engage in sensationalistic journalism.

It would certainly make sense if it was a joke because it’s just so absurb. If he said something like “anime is for pedos” then I’d certainly believe him to be honest but still retarded but yeah I would tend to believe he’s trying to be sensational.

I don’t imagine he was serious, just using it to tweak folks at the end of the interview. Hey, people are talking about it and clicking links to the article…wasn’t that the point of interviewing him to start with?
