$20 Game of the Week: Crackdown (Xbox 360)

crackdown.jpgI wanna see a show of hands people, and be honest. How many of you would have bought this game if not for the Halo 3 beta invite enclosed within? Anybody? Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? That’s a crying shame too, because while this game may not be Oblivion, or even Saint’s Row, this is one of the finest open-world games available on the Xbox 360. For good reason too, as David Jones, the original creator of Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings is the brains behind this package. Crackdown features a unique spin on sandbox gameplay, and its playing style encourages players to have as much fun as possible with it. Throwing in the Halo 3 beta invite wasn’t a bad idea either.

Gary Busey’s Guide To Saints Row 2

OK, so GTA IV is merely days away. Saints Row proved itself to be a worthy contender to the open world genre when it debuted, and the sequel looks to amplify that. Of course, no personality is more amped than Gary Busey, so the following videos show off some of Saint’s Row 2’s improvements with comments from Gary.

More after the break…

Halo 3 Legendary Map Pack

After December’s Heroic map pack for Halo 3 went free last week, we’re now getting some news about the Legendary pack.

Well not huge news. A lot of this has been available on Bungie.net for a while. But we have this cool new trailer (above) to show off the Legendary Maps! To see exactly whats in there, take a look at Bungie’s info page. They’ll be coming for 800 MS Points (thats Ten bucks U$), and on Tax Day, April 15. What better way to celebrate a refund, or unload frustrations after paying!

Powet.TV will be hosting a “Legendary Brawl” night on the new maps with double EXP on April 19. Come join the fun!

Sonic Unleashed Leaked Video

Sega is guilty of not caring after its favorite son, Sonic. In fact the best game with Sonic in it in the last 5 years is probably Super Smash Bros Brawl, made by Nintendo.
The above video is not officially released by Sega, but accompanies the alleged Sonic Unleashed screenshots. It looks official enough to me, probably just waiting to be revealed at a press conference or by a magazine/site exclusive.
Whatever Sonic Unleashed is, it needs to be good. The GameBoy Advance and DS Sonic games have done well rehashing classic Genesis gameplay, but do little to advance the franchise. Sonic Unleashed is supposedly for Xbox 360 and PS3 and could be somewhat similar to last year’s Wii Sonic game (which wasn’t met with great reception, but wasn’t really bad either)

Street Fighter II HD Remix detailed, beta coming

The above video with 1UP’s Dan Hsu shows some of the changes Capcom has made to the Xbox Live and Playstation Network remake of Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
Taking a page out of Halo 3’s playbook, SSFIITHDR will have an Xbox Live beta test featuring just Ryu and Ken packed in with a purchase of Capcom’s next XBLA offering Commando 3. Its an 8 week test this spring, and the final Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be out in summer.

MLG’s Top 10 Halo 3 Moments

I had no idea MLG clips were running on ESPN. I also had no idea ESPN had a videogame show either called “Game Up”
But they do.
And you can watch it on their site.
Anyway the highlight reel above is pretty much exactly the kind of top ten you’d see on ESPN, but to Halo players you’ll see some extraordinarly awesome sniper moves and triple kills.

Gears Of War Figures Revealed

gowfig.jpg
Epic Games masterful horror shooter Gears Of War will make its way to plastic in April with the first wave of action figures.
Shown above are a Locust Drone, protagonist Marcus Fenix, and Augustus “Cole Train” Cole. From NECA, each figure comes with its own weapon and is detailed to faithfully represent the in game characters. The Train is at home on the rails.
More pictures are available at Action Figure Xpress, though you can only order these by the case of 14 right now. Retail prices should land in the $15 to $20 range, and will go nicely against McFarlane’s Halo 3 figures…

Star Wars in Soul Calibur IV

Fighting games have a grand tradition of crossovers. Battletoads and Double Dragon, Marvel and Capcom, DoA and Halo, and now Star Wars characters will fill in the guest character slot in Soul Calibur IV according to 1UP.

Soul Calibur II had some very memorable guest characters, including Link from The Legend of Zelda. Obviously trying to tap into a phenomenom much bigger than just games, Namco has announce Yoda and Darth Vader will be playable characters. Even more interesting is the idea that MORE Star Wars characters and other guests may be announced and/or available via PS3 and Xbox 360 Download services.

UPDATE: Apparently Vader is exclusive to PS3, and Yoda is exclusive to Xbox 360. Video has also been added above
