IDW’s first crossover event, Infestation, was massively popular. By which I mean it sold a lot of books for the company. I’ve heard mixed reviews from fans of those other books, but I liked the Star Trek and Transformers tales enough anyway. I fully intend on buying the hardcover collection when it comes out soon.
IDW is never one to let a license opportunity go to waste, so they’re going to start Infestation 2 in January. The original book features dimension traveling zombies as the story thread holding the diverse worlds’ stories together. This volume with feature HP Lovecraft’s Old Ones. So get ready for Leonardo to cut some tentacles.
Actual story details are very slim right now, we just have the announcement from IDW. However, the creative team of Chuck Dixon and Guido Guidi have been announced for Transformers, and that book will be set in the duo’s famous “Hearts of Steel” universe. This alternate story line puts the Transformers at the dawn of the Industrial revolution and featured many popular characters a steam powered rail cars and battle ships.
Infestation 2 begins on January 25 2012 and will run weekly through April 11 2012.
Today, we have two more entries in the PowetToys category. These are quick looks at very basic figures with no audio. These do not replace full reviews, but are a way to give some attention to figures that just don’t have as much to talk about as those that get the full review treatment. Above we have Transformers Universe (2008) Autobot Hound. These came out just after the first movie’s toy line ran its course, if memory serves correctly. After the jump, we have the Transformers Universe (2008) Legends Class G2 Megatron figure.
Game Informer has just posted the cover to their November 2011 issue which revealed Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, the sequel to High Moon Studios’ 2010 hit Transformers: War For Cybertron. From Game Informer’s website:
In 2010, High Moon Studios released War For Cybertron, finally giving Transformers fans a game worth getting excited about. Afterwards, the developer settled back and listened to what the fans wanted, going back to the drawing board to craft a new and improved follow-up.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron continues the story of the Autobots and the Decepticons and their bitter civil war, but changes and improves upon so many of the fundamental ideas that the developer considers the game a natural successor rather than a true sequel. We have over 12 pages of exclusive details on High Moon’s new project, including extensive story and gameplay explanations, concept art, and dozens of screenshots. Whether you love the Transformers, or you just love hearing about the next great story-driven action game, Fall of Cybertron should be on your radar.
It looks like one of the Transformers designers from TakaraTomy dropped a bombshell on twitter. While showing some images of the new MP10 Optimus Prime figure, Shogo Hasui also posted a picture of a rough Masterpiece Ultra Magnus. The image shown is a very rough concept of slapping armor onto the latest version of the Masterpiece Optimus Prime mold. Obviously, this is very rough, but it sure looks like it has potential.
The Transformers Collectors’ Club revealed the first club exclusive figure for 2012; Runabout. Runabout is the partner of Runamuck, the club’s 2012 free membership exclusive. If you sign up to be a member by March 16th, 2012, you automatically get Runamuch for free as part of your membership. You also have the option to buy two other figures as a member of the club. Today’s announcement is the first of those two figures. Runabout will be put up as a preorder sometime in the Spring along with another as yet to be revealed figure.
This is a new short form format for PowetToys. This started out as a camera test, but figured I may as well make it into a video to share. Revenge of the Fallen Brakedown can be seen after the jump!
After the Pile O Loot video, I received a number of requests to do a review of this third party figure, Hercules Exgraver from TFC Toys. If you would like to see the transformations, please continue after the jump as that video is embedded below.
