Transformers 2007 Movie Game Developer Interview

bumblebee.jpg
Activision’s Daniel Suarez has a few words with Superhero Hype about their next game, Transformers: The Game.

The game, which will launch on multiple platforms, is supposed to feature 9 playable Transformers and 7 destructable levels over 2 seperate Autobot and Decepticon campaigns. Of note is this comment:

We’re making a game that is for Transformers fans. Since the very beginning, we’ve been very conscious of the heritage of this brand and have worked hard to integrate characters, locations and even subtle acknowledgements to G1 anywhere we can. There are a lot of special surprises, unique elements and bonus features that fans will enjoy.

Considering the unlockable costumes in all of Activision’s Marvel games and the character variations in Traveler’s Tales’ LEGO Star War series, is there any chance we’ll see some alternate looks for the playable characters? I can’t very well expect full 1984 remakes of the whole cast, but I wouldn’t mind seeing Bumblebee’s goofy face returning.

Thanks Dru!

Wizard World Los Angeles – Day 3

Wizard World Los Angeles - Day 3

It’s the third and final day of Wizard World LA, and… well, not much to talk about.

  • CBR has an interesting interview with comics veteran Peter David on the “3 act structure” of writing. It’s actually a really good read, even if you’re already familiar with the methods he describes.
  • CBR also has a great interview with Simon Furman regarding the upcoming Spotlight: Galvatron (with Guido Guidi on art), like how Galvatron ISN’T a rebuilt Megatron, or how his nemesis is mostly Ultra-Magnus (?), and how you shouldn’t expect Unicron to show up… outside of the upcoming Beast Wars: The Ascending book.
  • Diamond Select Toys has announced an upcoming Dr. Strange Minimate, from what Minimate Headquarters suspects could be a Defenders line.
  • Toy News International has images of DC Direct & Art Asylum’s 6th wave of Minimates, featuring “Battle Damaged” Wonder Woman & Cheetah, Bizarro & Supergirl, S.T.R.I.P.E. & Stargirl, and Sgt. Rock & Blackhawk. Images mirrored below:

Transformers 2007 Movie Cars, Cast, and the “R”

transformerscars.jpg
TFW2005 has a a few pictures from a photo op at Edwards Air Force Base here, where you can see all the Autobots in addition to the Decepticon Barricade and the F22 Raptor, which is the form of Starscream. Wow. Starscream is BIG. Check ’em out. ComingSoon has some shots of more Autobots from ShoWest 2007.

MTV has short interview with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, with some spoilers.

And because you can’t bring up Transformers without talking about the voice casting, NO they still have not made a decision about Megatron and Frank Welker, though he and Peter Cullen were spotted together on Shia Lebeouf’s Myspace. Rumours have been flying of Will Smith in negotiations as Jazz, which sounds pretty good if you ask me.

Finally, Shia mentioned to IESB that Transformers got an “R” rating on its first run through the MPAA. Apparently keeping blood out of the movie didn’t work, as the intense ‘bot on ‘con violence was still enough. Spielberg went to bat for the movie and got it knocked down to a PG-13. A new trailer with more awesome violence is due next month.

WonderCon Rundown – Day 3

WonderConToday’s the big finish for WonderCon, and the upcoming animated DVDs from DC were the highlight of the day. Read on, OR ELSE…

DC:

DC

  • Superman/Doomsday is due to release on September 18th, 2007. Superman will be voiced by Adam Baldwin, Lois Lane gets Anne Heche, and Lex Luthor is James Marsters.
  • The next film to be released will be DC: New Frontier.
  • The third animated feature they’re working on – Teen Titans: The Judas Contract – is in pre-production, and will have a different animation style from the recent Teen Titans cartoon. They’ll also stick more tightly to the comic, to differentiate themselves from the similar arc on the series.
  • Each movie will have its own ‘pocket’ continuity, where they’re not beholden to each other, or to the previous cartoons. Also, the movies will have more freedom in what they can do (read: they’re going to corrupt our youth with violence), as they aren’t made specifically for TV.
  • The DVDs should have a decent amount of special features, like behind-the-scenes featurettes and other extras and games.
  • After these three, they’re looking to do films for Aquaman, Wonder Woman, and Catwoman in the future. (The OTHER Big 3 of DC, right?) Bruce Timm’s wishlist for the future includes: The Question, Jonah Hex, New Gods, Kamandi, and Challengers of the Unknown.

IDW:

  • For Transformers books, we have an upcoming Spotlight on Kup and one for Galvatron, a Megatron Origin mini, and two “Best Of” books – one for Don Figueroa and one for Simon Furman.
  • There will be a Star Trek: Original Series mini which will have two versions of each issue – one in English, one in Klingon. And I was just wondering what could be nerdier than merely mating Star Trek and comics…

Groo!GROO THE WANDERER:

  • Like we said yesterday, the prognosis on the Groo/Conan crossover looking good.
  • Also, Mark Evanier has completed a script for the “Groo the Wanderer” movie, and Sergio Aragonés has completed some art, but at the moment it’s still tied up in negotiations.

NYCC – Day 2 Rundown

New York Comic-ConDay 2 of the New York Comic-Con isn’t quite over yet, but a lot’s happened already. All that, and there’s a couple tidbits leftover from yesterday that happened a little later in the day. Want to know more about the Avengers/Transformers book? How about the future of producing and selling comics digitally? Or maybe who’s working on the new Halo ongoing? It’s a bit less concise than yesterday, so read on for more!

Avengers / Transformers comic on the way

avangersautobots.jpgTheres a fair number of Marvel fans and a fair number of Transformer fans around here. Both should be pleased to hear this: The long rumored crossover book between the Avengers and Transformers is a reality.

Comics Continuum reports:
“Stuart Moore and Tyler Kirkham are the creative team for the Transformers/Avengers crossover between IDW Publishing and Marvel. Look for more on that book soon here in The Continuum.”

Direct and to the point. No word on whether this is a “team-up” or a “versus” or what. This is of course, not the first time Transformers have found their way into the Marvel Universe. The original comic series was published by Marvel, and issue #3 guest starred Spider-Man.

Thanks to Shiv’kala for the tip.

Custom G1 Wheelie and Cyclonus

Meandering across message boards, as I do, I happened upon a link to a couple of cool customs. These customs were made from scratch and are based on the Transformers Generation 1 cartoon versions of Wheelie and Cyclonus. Check them out! They are surprisingly faithful to the original concept.
