ToyArk.com is apparently wandering the hall at SDCC a little early and managed to snag a picture of the first wave of Marvel Legends after their multi-year hiatus.
It is with great pleasure I can tell you the wave consists of:
Klaw
Constrictor
Steve Rogers
Thor
Extremis Armor Thor
Hope Summers
Ghost Rider (I have no idea what version this is. New to me. Movie?)
and the previously announced Build-A-Figure; Terrax.
So we have 2 villains, a movie figure, an X-Man and the Avengers core team to round out the first wave. Seems pretty well balanced to me.
This morning, I caught wind that LEGO had gotten the full DC Comics license. The deal will allow LEGO to create figures and playsets based on the characters and properties of DC Comics. The line will launch in January with 13 characters including Joker, Bane, Lex Luthor, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The first pieces from the line will be on display at the LEGO booth at SDCC 2011 this weekend along with 3,000 Batman and Green Lantern exclusive figures as part of a promotion for the line.
The Marvel announcement stated that their deal would similarly cover figures and playsets. The license would take effect January 1, 2012 and would start seeing products roll out about May of 2012. The Super Heroes Marvel Collection would focus on the Avengers movie as well as classic Spider-man and X-Men characters. Some of the characters specifically mentioned included Wolverine, Nick Fury, Magneto, Deadpool, Spider-man, Doctor Octopus, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Loki and more. Select items, again, will be on display at SDCC 2011 this weekend.
It looks like both licenses will be brought under LEGO’s new Super Heroes line. LEGO scored a major coup with these two licenses and surely dealt a very strong blow to Hasbro’s up and coming construction block brand, KRE-O. Can KRE-O strike back with Star Wars?
Disney announced today that July 26, 2013 will be the expected release date for Thor 2. Chris Hemsworth is reportedly on board for the sequel, but Kenneth Branagh will not be returning as director. Branagh will most likely be involved in some “producing capacity” according to Deadline.
The summer of 2013 will be a busy summer for Marvel Studios with Iron Man 3 already scheduled for May 3rd.
In this week’s Powetcast, we discuss how the character Thor translated from myth to comic to screen, and how this film fairs as the 4th chapter in the Avengers saga. We’ll also rehash our disappointment in the finale of Smallville, and preview the Marvel Anime universe coming to the states later this year.
Zac is joined by Crazy, aDam, Sean and Sindra once again. Listen for a (spoiler free) early review of Thor, a run down on Mortal Kombat and Dr Who, and a legnthy discussion on the PSN outage.
Also, Osama Bin Laden’s death was announced while we were recording, so the last few minutes of the show take a weird turn.
Marvel’s The Avengers started production this week, and Marvel has posted the first production photo from the set. The Avengers is being directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Captain America who all starred in their character’s respective movies.
Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.
In a universe full of Super Soldiers, gods, mutants, monsters, robots, and just about everything else you can imagine, there is one organization that we can rely upon to keep tabs on all the madness and keep everything, and everyone, in line. That’s the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Division, more commonly known as S.H.I.E.L.D. And for the longest time, one man has been at the center of it all: Nicholas Fury. Nick has been many things during his lifetime: an amateur boxer, a WWII hero, a CIA agent, and a super spy. His most notable job was the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. While he may not shoot beams out of his eyes, have adamantium claws, wear a suit of armor, or have the proportionate strength of a spider, he is just as vital, if not more vital to the Marvel Universe, as any of its greatest meta-human champions. Here is Chris Hemsworth as Thor Odinson, just a couple seconds after waking up on Earth it appears. Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Stellan Skarsgård as Professor Andrews, and Kat Dennings as Darcy also appear in the clip.
For being a god of thunder, Thor shows remarkable weakness to electricity.
