Mark Ronson’s “Circuit Breaker” is a Link To The Past

Did you like that terrible game referencing play on words? You’ll like this music video for “Circuit Breaker” from the forthcoming Mark Ronson album “Record Collection”

I have his last record “Version” and it’s pretty good without the game references. But adding a game reference means I can post his music here without it being out of place, so enjoy!

Ted Leo / Phamacists kick off new Onion AV Club Series

The Onion (the funny newspaper) has new series where they’ll get 25 touring bands to cover 25 songs selected by editors. The first band, one of my favorites, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, get to turn in a pretty great cover of “Every Body Wants To Rule The World” originally by Tears for Fears.

By the way, I told you guys about 3 years ago about “Living With The Living” and my praise is matched for “The Brutalist Bricks

This is not the first time Ted Leo pulled out a pop cover for a website, taking a look at his performance of “Since You Been Gone” from a few years back… [Read the rest of this entry…]

Lazy Sunday Live! Samburg, Parnell & The Roots

Its been years since Chris Parnell and Andy Samburg did the “Lazy Sunday” sketch on SNL. It gave birth to one of the best segments of the show, the Digital Short. It also brought mainstream attention to The Lonely Island, who released probably one of the best comedy albums ever last year.
Parnell was on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon last night and for the first time ever, “Lazy Sunday” was performed in front of an audience, with beats by the legendary Roots crew. [Read the rest of this entry…]

$20 Game of the Week: Beaterator (PSP, PSN, Iphone OS)

beateratorThe PSP is turning out to be the platform of choice for would-be rap producers, as evidenced by 2007’s Traxxpad. Beaterator is the fruit of Rockstar’s collaboration with hip-hop producer Timbaland who at one time produced, did vocals on, or mixed a good 70 percent of popular music. It is based on a flash-based music mixer from the Rockstar website. Players can use Beaterator to create their own tunes and then share them via the Rockstar social club. Be warned, the interface isn’t nearly as user friendly as Traxxpad, but it provides a lot more functionality. You can craft your own drum loops, craft their own melodies, record sounds, import MIDIS, and more. You can even go into the song crafter and create a song instantly using ready-made loops. You have access to a library of hundreds of samples. There is a lot to absorb here, but thankfully, there are video tutorials to help you get used to everything.

Thanks to Beaterator, you don’t need thousands of dollars with of studio equipment to make hits. All you need is a PSP, a copy of the game, a memory stick, and some patience, and you can become the next DJ Primer or Manny Fresh.

Overclocked’s Quest for Sonic 4

nullApparently what started out as a little comment on the Twitter page of video game music icons Overclocked Remix has turned into a little quest for the members of the audio community. After being noticed by a gaming new blog, Press the Buttons, OCR decided that they indeed liked the idea of being put in charge of recording the soundtrack for the newly-dubbed Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Overclocked is no stranger to gaming soundtracks. They produced the remixed album for the Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix game released last year. It wouldn’t be that far off for the seasoned veterans of the community to pull out some original tunes inspired by the older Sonic games. However, even if Sega decided it might be a good idea, OCR might have to wait until Episode 2 was put into production, bow that Episode 1 is already slated for a release later this year.

Check out the Twitter Hype.
