Marvel Studios, without having an official presence at San Diego Comic Con, still managed to satisfy their base by releasing 7 character art posters and theater teaser poster for next year’s The Avengers.
The gallery included artwork showing Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, and Clark Gregg as Agent Caulson.
As you can see, these posters form a larger picture. I’ve ‘assembled’ the banners into a version larger than the one Marvel released. Click the banner here below to see the big version!
ToyArk.com is apparently wandering the hall at SDCC a little early and managed to snag a picture of the first wave of Marvel Legends after their multi-year hiatus.
It is with great pleasure I can tell you the wave consists of:
Klaw
Constrictor
Steve Rogers
Thor
Extremis Armor Thor
Hope Summers
Ghost Rider (I have no idea what version this is. New to me. Movie?)
and the previously announced Build-A-Figure; Terrax.
So we have 2 villains, a movie figure, an X-Man and the Avengers core team to round out the first wave. Seems pretty well balanced to me.
This morning, I caught wind that LEGO had gotten the full DC Comics license. The deal will allow LEGO to create figures and playsets based on the characters and properties of DC Comics. The line will launch in January with 13 characters including Joker, Bane, Lex Luthor, Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman. The first pieces from the line will be on display at the LEGO booth at SDCC 2011 this weekend along with 3,000 Batman and Green Lantern exclusive figures as part of a promotion for the line.
The Marvel announcement stated that their deal would similarly cover figures and playsets. The license would take effect January 1, 2012 and would start seeing products roll out about May of 2012. The Super Heroes Marvel Collection would focus on the Avengers movie as well as classic Spider-man and X-Men characters. Some of the characters specifically mentioned included Wolverine, Nick Fury, Magneto, Deadpool, Spider-man, Doctor Octopus, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Loki and more. Select items, again, will be on display at SDCC 2011 this weekend.
It looks like both licenses will be brought under LEGO’s new Super Heroes line. LEGO scored a major coup with these two licenses and surely dealt a very strong blow to Hasbro’s up and coming construction block brand, KRE-O. Can KRE-O strike back with Star Wars?

This new trailer for Cap focuses strongly on Steve Rogers pre-transformation. The effects to make Chris Evans not only skinny, but short, are really impressive. He’s almost hobbit sized.
“Forty Six & 2” by Tool is used to great effect. A really amazing tune by an amazing band, the movement of the music kicks in right as Steve is revealed and there are hints of some good fights in the second half of the trailer. And because we need to be beaten over the head with the Marvel cinematic universe, Howard Stark (Tony’s father) is featured and named in this trailer too.
An HD version of the trailer is being hosted by Yahoo.
Why isn’t this movie opening on July 4 for the US Independence day? Will you see it?
In this week’s Powetcast, we discuss how the character Thor translated from myth to comic to screen, and how this film fairs as the 4th chapter in the Avengers saga. We’ll also rehash our disappointment in the finale of Smallville, and preview the Marvel Anime universe coming to the states later this year.
Marvel’s The Avengers started production this week, and Marvel has posted the first production photo from the set. The Avengers is being directed by Joss Whedon and stars Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Chris Evans as Captain America who all starred in their character’s respective movies.
Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.
In a universe full of Super Soldiers, gods, mutants, monsters, robots, and just about everything else you can imagine, there is one organization that we can rely upon to keep tabs on all the madness and keep everything, and everyone, in line. That’s the Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Division, more commonly known as S.H.I.E.L.D. And for the longest time, one man has been at the center of it all: Nicholas Fury. Nick has been many things during his lifetime: an amateur boxer, a WWII hero, a CIA agent, and a super spy. His most notable job was the head of S.H.I.E.L.D. While he may not shoot beams out of his eyes, have adamantium claws, wear a suit of armor, or have the proportionate strength of a spider, he is just as vital, if not more vital to the Marvel Universe, as any of its greatest meta-human champions. Tomopop was on location at C2E2 this past weekend and got some nice shots of upcoming minimates based on the Marvel vs Capcom 3 game. Included in some of the images were Deadpool, Super Skrull, Dormammu, C. Viper, Morrigan and more. I did not see any accompanying information regarding release or assortment pack outs for the figures. Design sheets for these new figures leaked just before Valentine’s Day. Those can be seen here. It looks like many of the Marvel characters will be leveraging existing tooling, while most of the Capcom characters are getting the full treatment including Amaterasu!
