Iron Man Movie Suit & Set Pictures

Iron Man suit in action

from IESB.net

IESB.net has a mole on Iron Man set, and if you don’t mind some pretty minor spoilers, you can go see the pictures that prove it. But don’t worry – we’ll keep this newspost spoiler-free for ye faint of heart. The image we’ve got mirrored on the left is pretty representative of them all anyway – save for the last one, which actually shows off the suit’s eerie, glowing eyes.

Other than the images, the page has a rundown of what they saw on set, including Iron Man facing off against a stand-in for what’s likely to be a computer-generated enemy, a semi-truck with big ol’ holes in the side, and the crew regularly having to fine-tune the suit as it was being worn. They’ve got a few more details than that, like how their guy “was surprised at how agile the Mark 3 suit was. At one point I swear the guy was tap dancing on set.” But mostly, that sums it all up for you.

And even bigger news than the pictures, the page is supposed to have video of the Iron Man suit too (I assume it’s of the same quality as the images), but I looked and I looked, and I couldn’t find a working link for it anywhere. We’ll definitely keep you updated if it turns up.

Iron Man Gets Filmed At Edwards Air Force Base

Terrence Howards with Lt. Col. David Coppler
The image above comes from a few weeks back, when Terrence Howard (playing Jim “Rhodey” Rhodes in the movie) came by Edwards Air Force Base in California for some training. Recently, when Howard made a return trip to the base, this time he brought everyone back with him, and director Jon Favreau set up camp to do three days of filming.

The article from Edwards AFB’s actual website talks a bit about locations they used, shares some quotes from Favreau, and even has some personal quotes from the members of the Air Force:

At Edwards AFB, Mr. Stark and his sidekick, Lt. Col. Jim Rhodes, brought their comic book characters to life against a bustling backdrop of high-tech aircraft, a dry lakebed that’s a secondary landing strip for the space shuttle, and stretches of desert to be depicted in the movie as Afghanistan.

During the last day of shooting here, “Rhodie” led a group of about 20 Air Force “pilots” — all active-duty airmen and Marines who auditioned to be extras — through the base’s Hangar 1820. The group paused between a sleek F-22 Raptor and a bulb-nosed Global Hawk, both dramatically lit by light balloons suspended above, as Mr. Stark approached Rhodie for a heated discussion. . . .

“This is the best back lot you could ever have,” [Favreau] said. “Every angle you shoot is authentic: desert, dry lake beds, hangars.”

The Edwards AFB sets, from the scene at the hangar to earlier shots along the flightline and with aircraft not commonly seen even at Air Force bases, brought “a certain prestige to the film,” he said. . . .

Some, like Staff Sgt. Joe Gambles from the 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron, remembered passing on the tryouts when the soon-to-be-released “Transformers” movie was filmed here, and vowed never to do it again.

“I didn’t think it would be that big of a deal, but my friends who got involved with it had a great time, so I didn’t want to miss out on this one,” he said.

The article continues with a few more quotes from various members of the Air Force who enjoyed their time working on the film, including one man who just wants his son to be able see him in a movie, another who actually did get to work on the Transformers movie, and even one guy who was just happy his Porsche got put in the film.

Iron Man Movie Suit Revealed

Iron Man Movie SuitCourtesy of Entertainment Weekly, the world gets its first look at the ketchup-and-mustard flavored suit Robert Downey Jr. will be wearing in Jon Favreau’s Iron Man. The suit was designed by Oscar-winning special effects man Stan Winston, who has quite an impressive resume to his name, spanning from Edward Scissorhands to Predator to Galaxy Quest to Terminator 2 … and the list goes on and on.

Favreau had made a cryptic comment on myspace yesterday, saying, “Check out this weeks EW. You might want to check their website as well.” And clearly, this is the payoff. I only wish they had a bigger image to share than the one showing on the left.

As for the suit itself, it definitely looks, for lack of a better word, right. I can’t say I’m surprised; they did such a glorious job on the grey suit that I expected them to knock this one out of the park as well. As cool (and comics-accurate) as the suit might look though, it turns out (not too surprisingly) that it’s a bit of a chore to wear. “Robert was very bullish on wearing the suit whenever possible,” said Favreau. “Now I don’t know if he’s such a fan of that idea.” Oh, you crazy Hollywood people, not wanting to walk around in giant, heavy, sweaty mech-suits.

Iron Man Director Favreau Comments On Photos

Iron Man Movie
A few weeks back we took a peek at the Iron Man Mark 1 suit, and then a few days ago we saw the first official picture of Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark.

Jon Favreau has posted comment regarding both on Myspace:

Let me confirm a few things: The movie will contain both the gray suit and the gold and red. The light you see in the photo on Robert’s chest in the USA Today article is the chest piece glowing through his shirt. He is in captivity and forging the mask of the Mark 1. Both suits have been built practically by Winston Studios and are busily at work as we speak. We are exploring ideas for teaser trailers, though no date has been decided. We are planning to attend San Diego Comicon. Bridges is bald and plays Stane. The movie is on schedule and could not be going better.

Sounds great. Only a year to this movie? Sign me up.

Iron Man Movie First Suit Revealed

ironmanfirstsuit.jpg
Courtesy IGN, we have the Stan Winston built suit for Iron Man. This is the first of many Iron Man suits the character Tony Stark (played by Robert Downey Jr) will wear in the movie. Its highly reminiscent of the suit that first appeared in “Tales Of Suspense” where Iron Man was first published. The more familiar ketchup & mustard flavored suit will still be in the movie.

Directed by Jon Favreau, Iron Man is due May 2008.

Iron Man On-Set Pictures

screamoryawn.jpg
JustJared is playing host to a few of the first pictures to leak from the Iron Man set.
We see Robert Downey Jr wearing a swank tuxedo, taking direction from Jon Favreau, locking lips with Gwyneth Paltrow, and then Gwyneth caught in what might be a scream or a yawn.
I’m going to go with yawn since these aren’t action scenes, just some kind of dinner party. Still, its the first good look at Downey in full Tony Stark mode, and thats kinda cool.

Iron Man Movie Filming Updates

Iron Man Movie
About a week back Jon Favreau announced that he’d finished the first week of filming, and that he was “looking forward to getting out of the ‘cave.’ The first few weeks of shooting are spent, somewhat in sequence, establishing Stark’s captivity. It sets the table tonally for the rest of the film.”

ScreenRant.com recently updated with some photos from the exterior of this “cave” set, and we’ve got a couple of them mirrored here to give you an idea of what it looks like.

Entrance to the "cave" Camp entrance... or exit... or something like that
