Actually, Kendall, you are wrong.

The glowing object on his chest is a miniature Arch Reactor, Mark I. This was constructed by him while in captivity, in order to power an electromagnet that prevented a fragment of shrapnel from piercing his heart, resulting in his death. Upon escaping, he upgrades the Arch Reactor (to Mark II), which provides him with a much more reliable battery. It is taken from him by his business partner, Mr. Stane, in order to construct his version of Iron Man in order to kill Stark.

After the series of events that take place in the movie, Tony receives an artificial heart transplant, and no longer has to wear it.

I was against the casting of Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Now I don’t know why. Robert Downey Jr. is smart, sharp, tough,
funny and way cool. Who else could have made the character
so interesting and authentic? I love Spidey but this is THE BEST comic hero adaptation to movie yet. I only wish that
Stan Lee was a billionaire for all his work. I actually feel better about life after seeing this movie. Exelsior!

I always knew RD.Jr was going to make a great Tony Stark and having seen the movie today I was proven right. This movie is both fun and exciting and an excellent watch. I would defiantly pay to see it again.

You people are idiots anyone of you who has never read the comic books should not be writing anything in reagards to this..the glowing thing in his chest keeps him alive…its not because he has a bad heart it is the shrapnel from an explosion that is in his chest and is moving towards his heart so shut the hell up….IDIOTS
