Older poweteers remember that during the 8 and 16 bit years, Capcom released several NES and SNES adaptations of various Disney properties of varying quality. The most well known of these games are a series of titles based upon Disney’s Weekday Afternoon cartoon block. This April, Capcom, along with Digital Eclipse, who released 2015’s Mega Man Legacy Collection, will release The Disney Afternoon Collection, a compilation of 6 NES games. The games include Duck Tales 1 and 2, Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers 1 and 2, Darkwing Duck, and Talespin. The games will feature a rewind button, concept art, boss rush, and time attack modes along with the original games. The compilation will be available on April 18th for $19.99 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. No doubt this is going to bring back memories of after-school homework and cartoons for many a gamer.
As you can see, the subtitle of episode 8 is “The Last Jedi”. Of course it doesn’t tell us much more about the film. This isn’t the first time a Star Wars property has used the name “The last Jedi”. A 1981 issue of Marvel’s Star Wars comic used the title for a standalone story written by Mike Barr and Walt Simonson. A 2013 novel written by Michael Reaves and Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff told the story of a Jedi being pursued by Vader who is carrying out Order 66. Also a 2014 fan film makes use of the title. Episode 8 is due later this year on December 15.

Since October of 2014, GOG.com’s partnership with Disney has been bearing fruit. Not only have we seen re-releases of several old school Star Wars and LucasArts games, today now sees the re-release of three popular Disney video games from the 16-bit era: The Lion King, Aladdin (the Genesis version), and The Jungle Book. Each game sells for $9.99 (currently available at an $8.99 discount) individually, or $19.99 as a three pack.
This past week, we learned that Disney Infinity had been cancelled due to Disney Interactive’s decision to abandon console gaming. To add insult to injury, the company is closing down its internal studio Avalanche Software, leaving close to 300 people without work (hopefully not for long). This summer will see the release of two final playsets based upon Alice:Through the Looking Glass and Finding Dory. Even Worse, Microsoft decided to shutdown its Project Spark, the Xbox One and PC set of game creation tools that allowed users to create and upload games LittleBigPlanet style. Microsoft ended active development on the game back in September, releasing all the game’s dlc for free. As of August 12, the game will no longer have online access, as players will be unable to download content or upload to the cloud. The reason given for Project Spark’s cancellation was that most of the people involved with the project had moved on to other areas within Microsoft, it wasn’t feasible to continue supporting the project. Fortunately, unlike the last time Microsoft cancelled a big name game (Fable Legends) no studio was shutdown nor was anyone fired as a result. At any rate, this isn’t a good look for Microsoft, as this is at least the third title the company has cancelled (the first two being The Phantom Dust reboot and the aforementioned Fable Legends). Maybe we’ll hear about a replacement for Project Spark next month at E3.

Earlier this week, Disney Infinity revealed 2016 plans for its Disney Infinity franchise. Although there doesn’t seem to be any 4.0 release this year, the company palns to release 4 separate playsets. One of which is the Marvel Battlegrounds playset set to be released this month. The set will include a new Captain America figure based on 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Players can play Marvel Battlegrounds with any 2.0 and 3.0 Marvel character, including last year’s Ultron and Hulkbuster Iron Man figures. Also coming soon to 3.0 is Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Vision, right in time for Captain America: Civil War. Black Suit Spider-man from 2.0, previously only available with the Playstation Vita version of Disney Infinity 2.0 will be available by himself as well. Of course if you were hoping to see X-Men or Fantastic Four related characters, you’re out of luck. In non Marvel related 3.0 news, figures from Zootopia and the Jungle Book will be released for 3.0 this spring.
