Well, everyone’s favorite gun-toting raccoon and living tree are among Marvel’s newest (and most obscure) movie stars as of this weekend in Guardians of the Galaxy, and earlier this summer, everyone’s favorite mutants returned to the silver screen in X-men Days of Future Past, and what good would any movie be without the prerequisite tie-in games? Of course unlike recent movie tie in games, such as the Gameloft-Cashgrab mobile games based on Captain America 2 and Spider-Man 2, these games have no in-app purchases (it’s a rather biting commentary on mobile gaming when we’re praising games for NOT having any IAP, but I digress). The games themselves aren’t bad either.

The third and final trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past has been released. This is probably the most comprehensive trailer explaining the plot and showing us the initial confrontation between past-Xavier and future-Wolverine. We also learn that Magneto is in custody and Wolverine contacts Quicksilver to aid in the escape. Check out the trailer above and check out some of the related reading/viewing below.
Be sure to let us know what you think about the trailer in the comments!

We see much more action including Iceman, Sunspot, Colossus and more showing off their powers. We see Sentinels, Bolivar Trask, lots of Mystique and so much more. We finally have our first look at the trailer for X-Men Days of Future Past.
We have a much better idea of how events will take place now, particularly knowing that the messenger into the past will not be Kitty Pryde (as in the comics), nor Bishop (as in the 90’s cartoon). Instead that messenger will be Wolverine. It makes sense as far as the movie universe goes, unfortunate, though, that those other characters won’t get the development that Wolverine already has.

A new major event was announced for the X-Men at C2E2 this weekend by Brian Michael Bendis, Jason Aaron and Brian Wood. X-Men: Battle of the Atom pits some time travelling X-Men from the future against the original X-Men from the past, leaving the X-Men of today caught in the middle. Sound confusing? It sure does to me! The event will happen in September and October of this year, which marks the 50th anniversary of mutant mayhem. X-Men #1 came out in September 1963.
The story will be told in the following books:
X-Men Battle of the Atom #1
Uncanny X-Men #12-13
All-New X-Men #16-17
Wolverine & The X-Men #36-37
X-Men # 5-6
X-Men: Battle of The Atom #2
Details seemed a bit light beyond the above description, but we did get to see some concept art by Art Adams. Most of the images show the future X-Men including Beast, who has gone through further mutations, a grown up Molly Hayes from the Runaways, a female Xorn, a kid Wolverine with blue skin, red hair and stubby claws (did Logan shack up with Mystique?), an Ice Hulk (future Ice Man?), Deadpool and an unknown character at this time (This guy’s concept art was released by accident. He is a surprise character. Hint: The file name had ‘ProfX’ in it). The future team will apparently be led by Kate Pryde (Day of Future’s Past anyone?)

It was no secret that Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy were returning for the X-Men First Class sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past. They will be reprising their roles as younger Charles Xavier and Magneto, along with Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique and Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast. To many a fan’s delight, Bryan Singer tweeted today with the announcement that Sir Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen would be reprising their roles as older Professor X and Magneto, respectively.
Thrilled to announce @ianmckellen118 & @SirPatStew are joining the cast of #XMEN #DaysOfFuturePast #magneto #professorX More to come…
Days of Future Past was a pivotal two-issue story arc that swapped a current day X-Men, Kitty Pryde, with her older self from the future. As we follow the younger Pryde in the future, we find a timeline where nearly all but a handful of mutants have been wiped out. The future Pryde in the present (follow that?) has to stop events from taking place in the current day to prevent that apocalyptic future.
From the casting, it seems a safe bet that Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will be playing the Professor X and Magneto in that future timeline, while Fassbender and McAvoy will be the younger versions in the ‘present day’. What I want to know is, who will be the time-hopping X-Man? Also, if we are going into the future, do we get a Fantastic Four tie-in by seeing Franklin Richards? Fox owns the movie rights for both X-Men and the Fantastic Four, so in theory they could use that character.

In 1981, Marvel published Chris Claremont and John Bryne’s classic tale, “Days of Future Past”. The storyline depicted an alternate future in which mutants and superhumans were rounded up and sent to internment camps before being slain. The storyline was ranked among the franchise’s best storylines, and the dystopia represents everything that the X-men were fighting to prevent.
Alternate time lines and parallel universes are a common trope in sci-fi and fantasy, none moreso than Marvel comics. Like DoFP, Marvel’s alternate universes have produced some of the company’s best stories. They’ve even published several series centered around them such as What If and Exiles. Here are 5 classic alternate realities from the House of Ideas.
