In my meanderings across the interwebz, I came across this interesting article about some uncovered notes from Hasbro’s line of WWF figures from the early 90’s. Since this was around the time I was interested in wrestling, I found some of this particularly interesting. I did a little more digging and found the Flickr photostream of the pictures’ original source. Check out the article and then give the photos a look-through. I really liked the cartoony feel of those older figures. I think the newer figures that use the RealScan technology are missing that something that appealed to me as a kid. Maybe its just that there’s no modern incarnation of Hulk Hogan’s Rock n’ Wrestling.
Sindra and I have been evangelizing this series. If you are not watching it, you are missing out on some quality story-telling and character development and it looks like Season 3 only kicks that up a notch. Get ready! Season 3 is coming September 17th!

“When crime haunts the night, a silent crusader carries the torch of justice.
Those with evil hearts beware for out of the darkness comes the Gray Ghost!”
“The Gray Ghost” is fake TV show which exists in the world of “Batman: The Animated Series”. It’s hard to talk about him without getting into levels of fiction going deeper than the average scene in Inception!
The Gray Ghost character on the TV show is played by Simon Trent who is a character played by Adam West. In this way, the Gray Ghost is comparable to the old live action “Batman” TV series which Adam West starred in as well. Physically the Gray Ghost doesn’t look that much like Batman. He is more similar looking to The Shadow. In this universe you can’t exactly have Batman watching and old show called Batman. Similarities here exist, such as the Batcave being modeled after the Gray Ghost’s lair.
The Gray Ghost’s main and original appearance was in an episode of “Batman: The Animated Series” titled “Beware of the Gray Ghost”. The basic plot of this episode centers around a character who is doing copycat crimes based off of an old episode of the Gray Ghost show named “The Mad Bomber”.

I wish this was a joke. At this point, I’m not sure what to believe, but basically this trailer for a new Sailor Moon show in Hong Kong popped up on YouTube today. I had not heard anything about this show until then. In an attempt to verify this was real I went to the web site listed at the end of the commercial to check out their schedule. Checking every day at 6 I found that Friday, August 13th, at 6pm is listed “?????” or, as that translates to English, Sailor Moon. The show is not listed as having played this past Friday, so it looks like this Friday will be the premiere!
It just looks so horrible. The girl playing Sailor Mars is completely obese. The actresses appear to change when transforming. I wonder is this even an official show or some kind of cheap knockoff? The music in the video is from the Sailor Moon anime, but that doesn’t mean much. After such an amazing live action Japanese show a few years a back a show would have to be pretty amazing to top it, and this show does not appear to be at any risk of doing that.
Powet.tv will be keeping you posted on more information about this horrible looking show as it becomes available. Leave a comment and let us know if you think this show will be bad, horrible or downright unwatchable.
UGO.com spent a little time with Avatar: The Last Airbender creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. They grilled them on some details about the upcoming Nickelodeon series. Here are some highlights from the article:
The show will be a mini-series with little to no filler episodes with the two creators writing each episode.
We will see Aang in the show, but it sounds like he won’t be alive, which shouldn’t be a surprise.
They are sticking to having only one avatar alive at a time (which is good because thats central to the mythos)
Aang’s son, Tenzin, will be in the show (We know this from the release, he’ll be the airbending teacher for Korra)
Katara is, indeed, the mother of Aang’s son.
Airbenders will be under persecution in a way.
The story will not center around a war, but a different type of conflict.
Cheesy teen romance? Check.
Thats about it. For the full article, you can go here.
So back in the day, MTV actually had a decent helping of good programming to its name, in tandem with the music component it has since lost. In the 1990’s, you had shows such as Beavis and Butthead (I didn’t say they were intellectually-stimulating, mind you), which showcased the network’s mindset of pushing the envelope with mindless entertainment for it’s core audience – teen and 20-something men.
But then the balance came out in the form of Daria in 1997. Daria Morgandorffer started as a side character on Beavis and Butthead to serve as a foil for the two brainless teen boys. MTV execs approached the series story editor with the idea of creating a spin-off series starting Daria. The Go-ahead was given, and in March of 1997, the first of 13 episodes aired for the new series and an animated legacy was born. Sorta. [Read the rest of this entry…]
ToyArk has some good photos of the Ghostbusters display from Mattel. 3 basic things were on display.
The retro-action style figures based on The Real Ghostbusters cartoon.
The 12 inch Movie Masters figures.
The 6 inch Movie Masters figures.
Here’s where its a litte more interesting. The 6 inch figures are actually a 4 pack based on their Ghostbusters 2 uniforms and are scheduled to be released as a Toys R Us exclusive.
Not much more to it than that. There was a decided lack of ghosts as was abundantly evidenced by their diorama display of the 4 characters facing a light wall aiming their proton guns at nothing in particular. We will probably know more after the Mattel panel. Once I get more news, I will update it in this post. For now, check out some of the mirrored images from the ToyArk after the jump.
