Sunset Overdrive, an Xbox One exclusive title developed by Insomniac (Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank), is one of many new gaming franchises set to make its debut next console generation.

Like it or not, this next generation of consoles will soon be upon us. With the Wii U having been out for little over half a year, some will say it’s already here. The Wii U, Xbox One, and Playstation 4 will present players with dozens of sure to be classic titles, including several new franchises. Lets not forget however that there were several classic franchises that came from this generation. So now is a perfect time to take a look at the classic franchises that were spawned this past generation. To qualify, a franchise has to have it’s first title released on the Wii, Xbox 360, or Playstation 3, so you won’t see the Elder Scrolls or Halo in this list. Also, a game has to have more than one title in it’s series, so that’s why you won’t see Mirror’s Edge here.

Thor: The Dark World UK trailer released

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor in Thor: The Dark World.
From IMDB:

Thor battles an ancient race of Dark Elves led by the vengeful Malekith who threatens to plunge the universe back into darkness after the events of The Avengers.

Natalie Portman also returns as Jane Foster.
Thor: The Dark World is due out in theaters on November 8, 2013.

Though, I think Thor was the weakest of the first phase of movies, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I am very much looking forward to the sequel’s release and anticipate that only increasing once Iron Man 3 is released.

$20 Game of the Week: Dungeon Hearts (PC, iOS)

dungeon-hearts

Dungeon Hearts is a puzzle/RPG hybrid. Playing as a group of heroes, you set out to defeat an evil entity. Instead of traditional turn-based combat however, you attack by matching 3 tiles. By matching up colors, you create gems which you use to attack enemies. Different types of tiles come into play as you make your way through each battle. While the game is easy enough in the first few levels, it gets harder as more types of tiles are introduced, and the playing field gets increasingly hectic. There isn’t much in the way of replay value if you can finish the game, but the battles are randomly generated, and there are 4 different soundtracks to unlock. If you have an iPad, you’ll definitely want to play that version, as it’s touch-screen controls will be easier on your hands than a mouse. While Dungeon Hearts is a bit on the short side, at $3, the price is right.

Powet Top 5: Top 5 Bastard Stepchildren of Famous Gaming Franchises (And why they weren’t all that bad)

Welcome to the Powet Top 5, where we explore the top (and bottom) 5 items we think are relevant to any of a variety of topics that span the imagination. Sit back, read, and respond.

Resident Evil 6 was panned by critics and fans alike. But was it really that bad?

Resident Evil 6 was panned by critics and fans alike. But was it really that bad?

Everyone has that one member of the family they’d rather not talk about. You know the type, they just can’t seem to get their shit together. If they’re not at home all day watching Real Housewives/SportsCenter/Jerry Springer, then they’re out partying and getting inebriated. They’ve been in and out of jail like it’s got a revolving door, they couldn’t hold down a job if they had a 2-ton paper weight, and they’re having more babies than they really can afford.

Then there is that other type of family member that isn’t mentioned, but perhaps mom and dad are being a bit too hard on them. You know the type. They’ve made one bad mistake and are trying their hardest to turn their life around, but the older heads in the clan aren’t making it easy for them. Or maybe it’s the girl in your all white/Asian family that married a black man. Or maybe it’s the gay/lesbian/atheist/Muslim in your Evangelical Christian household. Or they’re a fan of Lebron James and the Miami Heat…..and your family lives in Cleveland.

Well, with video games, it’s kinda like that too. Every great franchise has at least one title that is horrible. Zelda: Wand of Gamelon. Mario is Missing. Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game. Mortal Kombat Advance. Every great franchise also has at least one game that’s not terrible, but for some reason it’s looked down upon compared to others in its franchise. You know, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. Final Fantasy XIII. Silent Hill: The Room. Maybe they had some gameplay issues that bought it down. Or maybe we grown to expect too much of our favorite franchises. Or maybe jaded fanboys were all too happy to pick apart its flaws. Either way, this week’s top 5 celebrates those games that get a little more hate than they should.

Toy Fair 2013: Hasbro announces Fall of Cybertron Metroplex

Transformers_FOC_-_Optimus_standing_in_Metroplex_hand_640

Hasbro announced at their Toy Fair 2013 event that they will be making a figure of Fall of Cybertron Mextroplex in scale with Legend Class figures. He will be a new class called a Titan Class figure. Metroplex will be a triple changer standing at 24 inches tall retailing for approximately US$125.

The figure is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2013. Fairly appropriate. If its not on display this weekend, we are sure to see it in June at Botcon. Pictures will be added to this post if the figure does end up being on display this weekend.

This is enormous news, but its a shame its in scale with Legends Class figures. …Or alternatively, I should say its a shame that no Fall of Cybertron figures were released in the Legends Class, only the Deluxe and Voyager classes. Legends Class figures are mostly Transformer Prime related. Could this mean a small assortment of FoC figures could be making their way out? Unlikely, but it’d be neat nonetheless.

[UPDATE – More info!]
It looks like Metroplex will come with a Legends Scale Scamper. That was the name of the small black car transformer that came with the original Metroplex. Metroplex will have light up eyes, flip down visor, articulated pupils (?) and independent cannons.

[UPDATE 2 – Pictures!]
Ben Yee’s World of Transformers has posted some great photos of Metroplex on Facebook. You can see the full gallery here. I’ve included a few below.

Note the two figures next to the front view for size comparison. It was also revealed that he will come with a sticker sheet so that the paint apps don’t get lost in cost reduction. This figure on display had the sticker sheet already applied.

Update 3! – Here are some official Hasbro photos of all 3 modes!

Lost Classics: Final Fantasy 6 (SNES, Game Boy Advance, Playstation, Playstation Network, Virtual Console)

ff6

Final Fantasy was the last of the ‘old school’ Final Fantasy games, and it would be the last numbered entry on a Nintendo system (barring the remakes). When it was released over here, it was re-titled Final Fantasy 3 as it was the third FF game to be released in North America. It’s graphics, characters, and story stand out as one of the greatest RPG epics even to this day.
