The Horror Report: Underground Romero Flick?

Diary of the DeadAfter the rather laughable (literally) showing that was Land of the Dead, it’s not hard to believe that one of zombie master George Romero’s “Dead” flicks would be passed by the wayside. Although, this very well could have been the intention.

The new title, Diary of the Dead, is an independent member of the Dead series family, rather than it’s money-backed theatrically released siblings that was first released at the Toronto International Film Festival this past Saturday. The plot, which is said to be “non-realistic view of things” starts with students beginning to film a horror movie in the wilderness at the same time as the events of Night of the Living Dead, only to be attacked by zombies. Romero says that he aimed to have it be different from The Blair Witch Project in that it will give a different perspective of what happened that particular night other than that of the boarded-up farm house in the first movie.

Romero has stated that this movie will not in fact be the fifth installment to his series, but more of a side-story – “a rejigging of the myth” he quotes. Beyond it’s debut at the film festival, no other releases have been mentioned.

LED MOTHER F***ING ZEPPELIN!!!

The Police getting back together? Whatever.
Def Leppard reunion? Meh.
Kiss doing another farewell tour? Double-meh.
But… Zeppelin?
Led Zeppelin?
I’ve got at least one used-but-not-abused (well, slightly abused) kidney ready to sell for tickets if anyone is interested.
It looks like the late John Bonham’s son Jason will be joining the three remaining members of the band; Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones on stage for a one-time concert at London’s O2 arena. This will be the first time the three have played together in almost 20 years. Lord willing, it’ll spark off a full-fledged tour with at least a few shows in the states. BBC News has the full story here.
Now, about that kidney…

Rez HD and Ikaruga coming to XBLA

The Xbox 360 may not be doing too well in the land of the rising sun, but that didn’t stop Microsoft from making some killer announcements at the Tokyo Game Show. Besides the formal announcement of the exclusive Ninja Gaiden 2 (shock!) a handful of downloadable titles were announced for Xbox Live Arcade including Treasure’s critically acclaimed shooter Ikaruga and a new, high-definition version of Sega and United Game Artists’ Rez with full 5.1 audio! 1up has got the screenshots here, commence drooling!

Ninja Gaiden 2 BRINGS THE GORE!

ng_snikt.jpg
Looks like the good folks at Xbox Japan slipped up an released some screen shots before the official announcement of Ninja Gaiden 2 for the Xbox 360. These shots were quickly taken down, but not before a mister bloke of NeoGAF took notice. More gory goodness after the jump.

Transformers 2 Delayed

transformers2delayed.jpg
With the DVD release of Transformers right around the corner and the movie still yet to see its September 21st IMAX release, you’d think Dreamworks, Paramount, and Hasbro would be eager to talk about making a sequel to their $600+ Million movie. Well producer Don Murphy is talking…

For those of you most anxious about TRANSFORMERS 2, the silence you hear is primarily because people are fretting about a presumed strike in June 2008. Will it happen? I don’t know- does the public care about strikes anymore in this day and age? What do rich people have to strike about anyway? I don’t have any side here (you hear about the writers and the Producers but that actually means the STUDIOS) I just think stopping work is kind of pointless. But since no one wants to be filming IF a strike happens, everything needs to be done filming by the end of May 2008. So this is affecting the lack of news about Transformers 2 at least for now. Stay tuned.

So the good news is they’re not going to try to rush something, but the bad news is we’ll have to wait until the whole thing gets sorted out. I don’t know enough about the Hollywood strike to tell you what might happen, but I don’t think anyone actually wants to stop working so I’m sure they’ll find a resolution before we run out of movies.

ironman-460×226_01.jpg
Apple.com is hosting the long awaited trailer to the 2008 movie adaptation of the Marvel comic Iron Man. Directed by Jon Favreau, it stars Robert Downey Jr, Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Terrence Howard.

This trailer will be very familiar if you saw the footage from ComiCon, but this is of course much higher quality.

X-Men Disassembled Teaser Post Banner

On Friday, Marvel released a teaser image for what appears to be another Marvel event focusing on the X-Men. I’ve mirrored the image below. The only other information released with it was a date. September 10th, 2007. Thats tomorrow. Whatever this is about will most likely be announced at a Diamond event for ‘Direct Market retailers’.
