PSA: Powet is with Coco, donate to Haitian relief

conan03Two of the biggest news stories this week are the disaster in Haiti and the dethroning of Conan O’Brien as host of The Tonight Show. Naturally, my fellow geeks, we’re all rooting for Conan, but its hard to ignore that an impoverished nation has been hit by a terrible earthquake from which it may never fully recover.

An enterprising lad named Mike Mitchell has combined these two efforts spectacularly. You can buy his “I’m With Coco” artwork as a print or a t-shirt and a portion will be handed off to relief in Haiti.

It is our sincere hope that those in Haiti who have survived are cared for in the best manner and can begin to rebuild, and that Conan O’Brien continue as host of Tonight or move swiftly to another network that appreciates him as much as we do.

Transformers War For Cybertron Reveal Trailer

This video has a lot of the same footage from the Transformers War For Cybertron Teaser Video, but includes voiceover from Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime. Its not Frank Welker as Megatron though, unclear if he’s still yet to be cast or if they’re going with another actor.
You’ll identify a lot more characters, including Bumblebee and Trypticon.

In related news, is Hasbro prepping a full line of War For Cybertron Toys? They’ve definitely made a deluxe Prime! Still no announcement where the series will go in 2010, this might be “filler” material until the next cartoon or movie is released.

Spider-man 4 cancelled, reboot already scheduled

After hearing rumors that Sam Raimi and the film studios were at a standstill over a number of aspects over the third sequel in this franchise, news of delays, and the contention over just who the villains were going to be, it has come to pass that the movie has been cancelled with Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire walking away. Sony Studios has been quick to announce that they will be rebooting the franchise in 2012, putting Peter Parker back in high school.

This news comes not long after the prequel to X-Men featuring Magneto also was announced to be dead in the water, in favor of a different prequel to follow the formation of the X-Men.

Sadly, this means that prequels and reboots are still in vogue and won’t be dying in the near future like the uncreative fads they have become.

Resident Evil Motorcycle Unveiled

At the CES tradeshow this past weekend, it seems Capcom had a little something to show off to the other exhibitors. In collaboration with Savage Cycles came the creation of the Resident Evil Limited Edition Violator chopper to be unveiled at their Dark Void party at CES in Nevada.

Can’t think of a more kick-ass ride to have for zombie-thrashing. You know, short of an armored car with a cow-catcher.

Optikk, Evil-Lynn and new accessories for MOTU Classics on display at Gallery 88 art show

MOTUC_ArtShow_Case

We’ve been gawking in the powet forums at much of the art that is surfacing from the “Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” Art Show. There is truly some amazing art on display that pays tribute to the Masters of the Universe franchise. Thats not what this news post is about though. The show opening on Friday was supposed to also host the announcement of one of the Mattel SDCC exclusives, rumored to be a ‘celebrity’ exclusive (whatever that means), but it was not long before MattyCollector updated saying that they were not going to be allowed to show the figure. Fortunately for us, ActionFigureInsider reports the show did not disappoint and Mattel was able to bring some other surprises instead. Evil-Lynn was present and accounted for along with all of her accessories including the previously unseen Screech (repainted falcon; see DCUC Beast Boy, MOTUC Zoar w/ Teela) and a second orb for her staff. Evil-Lynn’s only prior appearance before this was in the exclusive picture in the latest issue of Toyfare.

The A-Team Trailer

Joe Carnahan’s big screen remake of The A-Team looks amazing. You might have some doubts as you watch the standard action movie fare with a slowed version of the original theme, but the last 20 seconds of the trailer sell the entire flick. I don’t even want to spoil it. I’ll just say that any sequel to last summer’s GIJOE movie will have to stretch far to beat such an outlandish action sequence.
Liam Neeson leads the cast as Hannibal Smith, with Bradley Cooper (ALIAS, The Hangover) as Face, Rampage Jackson (UFC Fighter) as BA Baracus, and overnight sensation Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Howlin’ Mad Murdock.
