Thundercats return to Cartoon Network

newthundercatsliono Warner Bros has announced they plan to relaunch Thundercats with a new animated series set to debut on Cartoon Network. A date has not been announced, but it will be co-produced by Warner Bros Animated and Studio4°C in Japan.

A copy of the press release follows, but it really doesn’t say much outside of WB’s attempt to get Thundercats going again after decades of rumors and false starts. Oh, and we also have this massive teaser image of Lion-O. Thats pretty cool right?

So if you were to look into the Eye of Thundera and were given sight beyond sight, what would you want to see in a new Thundercats show?
For me personally, I hope WB calls up Mattel and gets the Four Horsemen to do the action figure line.

Peter Cullen Returns To Transformers Prime

2008_cullenTransformers Prime, the new series scheduled to debut this October, will feature the return of Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime.

Cullen voiced the original Optimus Prime among other roles in the 1984-1988 Original “G1” Transformers series. Fan demand led to his return to the role in 2007 for Michael Bay’s “Transformers” live action movie and its sequel in 2009. He’s also expected in the third live Transformers movie in 2011.

Transformers Prime will be on a new network “The Hub” which will launch in place of Discovery Kids. Since Hasbro will co-own the network, they’ll be limited on the amount of advertising they can do within government restrictions: Transformers ads cannot appear during Transformers shows, but can run during other shows like GIJOE. Classic Transformers shows will run on the network in addition to the new show.

Early reports indicate the series will be CG animation and take several design cues from the live action movies. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who scripted both theatrical Transformers as well as last year’s Star Trek revival will act at show runners for Transformers Prime.

Conan O’Brien Breaks Silence to 60 Minutes (Video)

Conan may be legally prohibited from being funny on TV, but he’s now legally able to speak about what happened. Steve Kroft from 60 Minutes interviews Conan at his home, about his feelings and his remarkably positive outlook for his future on TBS.

Above, see the full interview that was broadcast, and included after the jump are the outtakes available from the CBS website. Some are informative, some are silly, but unless you’ve got tickets to his sold out live show, its the only Conan you’ll see until November.

Red Faction coming to SyFy!

The sleeper hit of last year, the critically acclaimed reboot of Red Faction is being developed for the cable channel Syfy (formerly SciFi).

Red Faction deals with post colonization of Mars in 2120 when natural resources for Earth have been depleted and the citizens of Mars are forced into servitude and slavery to the Earth Defense Force. The minors and workers form their own revolutionary group, the Red Faction, and begin targeting the operations of their unwelcome captors in the name of a free Mars.

According to Broadcasting & Cable, SyFy intends to produce Red Faction as a movie event first, which if successful will be expanded into a regular series.

In addition, THQ’s sequel to Red Faction Guerrilla will be co-produced with SyFy Games, furthering the channel’s long term commitment to the series.

Red Faction Guerrilla as a game was a real blast, knocking down buildings with all manner of explosives or just using your sledgehammer. Unfortunately the story is a little weak, but the universe has a lot of potential especially if the producers want to get daring and relate the conditions on Mars to current day events. We’ll have to keep an eye on who lines up to write and star in the show to see.

Powet Alphabet: Q is for Quantum Leap

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

Quantum Leap (Season 1)

Not long ago, there began a somewhat off-kilter TV show with an unbelievable premise that nonetheless captured the hearts and minds of America. Guest stars who were associated with it went on to have long careers of their own, even as the principals struggled to escape its overpowering shadow. Despite the sometimes-inexplicable twist and turns of the plot, what really attracted audiences were the touching and realistic character pieces that this show delivered week after week.

I could be talking about ABC’s LOST, but before LOST was NBC’s Quantum Leap. Read on to find out why this show held, and twenty years later continues to hold, a special place in the hearts of science geeks, acting geeks, history buffs, and non-geeks alike.
