Powet Top 5: Top 5 Squaresoft RPGs NOT Named Final Fantasy

Welcome to the Powet Top 5, where we explore the top (and bottom) 5 items we think are relevant to any of a variety of topics that span the imagination. Sit back, read, and respond

Everyone knows that what Capcom and SNK are to fighting, EA is to sports, and Epic is to shooters, Squaresoft, now called Square-Enix (you know, since merging with Enix), is to RPGs. Or at least they used to be at a time. While their most recognizable title is Final Fantasy, they have created other classic RPG franchises. This article celebrates 5 of them. By the way, this list is specifically focused on Squaresoft and not Square-Enix, just in case you’re wondering why Dragon Quest or Illusion of Gaia isn’t on here.

MOTU Classics Mekanek revealed, coming in October

An email was supposedly sent out to all Club Eternia subscribers with the above image. I say supposedly because I, and many others, never recieved the email. The image announces Mekanek as an addition to the MOTU Classics line, at long last. As expected, he does not have an extending neck gimmick, but instead comes with neck extension accessories to show off his elongated prosthesis. The accessories will measure 2 and 5 inches a piece. He also comes with the classic styled mace based off the one that came with his vintage figure. Mekanek is slated to be available in October, but that is always subject to change.

This leaves a short list of core characters left. Who is on your must-have list?

Care Bears: Welcome to Care-A-Lot Theme Song

Care Bears: Welcome to Care-A-Lot - Grumpy Bear

Here’s what appears to be the theme song for the new Care Bears: Welcome to Care-A-Lot cartoon:

The song can be found on the American Greetings web site playing with the new “Care Bears Cheers For All!” game. The video from the clip above was added separately from other footage. An instrumental version of the tune can also be heard in the background of many of the videos that showed up recently introducing the cast of the new Welcome to Care-A-Lot series. It stands to reason this is the theme song for the show, but there has been no specific confirmation of this. We’ll know for sure come June 2nd at 8am when the show premieres on the Hub. How do you like the new theme song?

Check out the Care Bears section of the Hub web site for some new wallpapers and other cool stuff. I’ve included images of some of those below.

Arrow coming soon to the CW, based on Green Arrow

CW has a new show in the pipeline based on DC Comics’ Green Arrow. The new show, called Arrow, will star Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen and air on Wednesday evenings at 8PM EST. This will pair Arrow with Supernatural, which airs at 9PM. No word on a premiere date just yet.

Here is a basic run down of the plot:

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island. While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was. Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance. As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory. By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness. However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city. Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.

Marvel’s Official Timeline Of Events Leading To ‘Avengers’ Movie

While it is accepted that all the Marvel ‘Avengers’ solo movies lead into the massive super hero team up film, there has been some inconsistency from fans as to which events came in what order. Obviously, Captain America’s World War II mission is before Tony Stark built his first Jericho missile, but when Did Thor fight The Destroyer and when did Hulk fight The Abomination? The answers may surprise you!

A book called The Art of Marvel’s The Avengers has the full time line spelled out in relation to the event of Tony Stark admitting he’s Iron Man. Goes back as fas as when Odin left the Cosmic Cube on Earth and leaders up to the very first scene in Avengers. Since many events overlap, there is never going to be a proper order to watch the films in, unless you want to sit at an edit bay and cut together a 10 hour movie of the 5 films before Avengers.

$20 Game of the Week: Universe Sandbox (PC)

Designed by Dan Dixon over the course of a 15 year period, Universe Sandbox is exactly what the title implies: a sandbox allowing you to play with the universe. Not so much a computer game as an education tool, Universe Sandbox is a gravity simulator. While it simulates our universe, you can pretty much adjust and test anything within the game, from the size of the planets, position of bodies, to collisions of stars and planets. There are several simulations included with the game, and you can edit them as you wish. So if you want a look at how our solar system looks, or bring about the apocalypse, then you’ll want to download this game. Makes for a good science project too.

Meet the Care Bears from the new series

"Care Bear Stare" billboard for Care Bears on The Hub June 2nd

The new Care Bears series “Welcome to Care-A-Lot”, which will premiere June 2nd, is a bit over two weeks away and the Hub and American Greetings are busy advertising. A huge Care Bears billboard sporting the words “Care Bear Stare” can now be seen in Los Angeles, in the same location that many popular My Little Pony billboard have been posted.

In addition to this a number of videos introducing various Care Bears are now online on the American Greetings web site. Check out videos to introduce Cheer Bear, Funshine Bear, Grumpy Bear, Harmony Bear, Share Bear, Tenderheart Bear and Wonderheart Bear.

Grumpy Bear makes the best of a bad situation

So who’s your favourite bear to date? Grumpy Bear seems promising, with his carry all which seems something like Batman’s utility belt. It should be noted that Funshine Bear is male in this show. Though female in the original Care Bears cartoon, Funshine Bear’s sex has changed in later series.
