$20 Game of the Week: Green Everyday Special Part One

This week as you know, is Thanksgiving. The day after of course, is Black Friday. So the day after you spend a day being thankful for the things you got, you’ll no doubt spend cash on things you don’t need. Many of you however will loathe this event, either because you wish to show solidarity with the retail worker strikers, you’re low on cash, or you wish to avoid the insanity of the frenzied crowds. Even so, you’ll be envious of the deals that you could be cashing in on. Fear not, ya boys at Powet got your back. We got two editions of $20 GOTW coming this week. These games, as always are either at or below the $20 mark year round, so there is no need to get up early, stand in line, or fight through crowds. Matter of fact, you can cash in on them now. These games are downloadable and/or can be ordered from all major online retailers, so there is no need to leave the house. I’m gonna call this, Green Everyday. You’re welcome by the way.

MOTU Classics Castle Grayskull is officially a go, minimum order quantity met

MattyCollector has announced that Castle Grayskull has met the minimum order number needed to go ahead with sculpting a real model to eventually go into production next year. With little more than some basic design sheet images and a foam mock-up, fans put their money where their mouths were by pre-ordering the colossal playset at the steep cost of US$250. Had the minimum quantity not been met, the project would not have gone forward much like the Young Justice figures planned for next year that could not muster the pre-order minimum. Had Castle Grayskull not gone forward, it likely would have stifled the waning enthusiasm for the line further.

Now that sculpting can begin, Mattel is hoping to have something preliminary to show off at NYTF in February of next year. Pre-orders have opened back up for Grayskull and will remain open until January 4, 2013 at 9AM PT. Fans can now look forward to voting in the Spring for what characters will appear on the box art, which will be done by the same artist who painted the box art on the original Castle Grayskull, Rudy Obrero.

If you have not yet pre-ordered Castle Grayskull, you can do so here.

Maximum Letdown: Contra – Legacy of War (PS1, Sega Saturn)

Contra – Legacy of War represents one of the franchise’s lowest points. As the sequel to the Genesis classic Contra – Hard Corps, Legacy of War should have used the Playstation’s processing power to bring the franchise to the next generation with full force. Instead, it became one of the bastard step children of one of Konami’s most beloved franchises, right along side the Nintendo 64 Castlevania titles.

First image of Mark Wahlberg on the set of Transformers 4!

Marky Mark in Transformers 4

Yesterday we learned that Mark “Marky Mark” Wahlberg had joined the cast of Transformers 4. Powet.tv has an exclusive first look at Marky Mark on the set in the role of Optimus Prime!

This is of course not Marky Mark’s first affiliation with Transformers. In the movie Boogie Nights Marky covered Stan Bush’s “The Touch” from the 1986 Transformers animated movie. This is shown in Powet’s review of the Transformers animated movie on Blu-Ray:

He also whips out a large prosthetic penis in the film.

It was previously reported that Jason Statham would be the new star of the film. At this time this appears to be untrue as he was not spotted on set along with Marky Mark.

Movie Review: Cloud Atlas

I had seen a trailer for Cloud Atlas not very long ago. I didn’t really understand it, but it piqued my curiosity. There appeared to be some elements of science fiction and adventure involved that appealed to me. From what I had heard it was based on a novel that was supposed to be unfilmable. Several days after experiencing the movie, I am still thinking about it. And I say ‘experience’ because one does not simply watch this movie, you become involved in it. If you like Cloud Atlas, despite its 172 minute run-time, it is unlikely that you will be satisfied with a single viewing.

Cloud Atlas is, in fact, six separate stories set in different eras, but all told in parallel. Initially, the jumping back and forth between six different plots is confusing and disorienting, but as things progress, it becomes increasingly easy to follow since we are not bogged down by any unnecessary elements in the plots. These are fairly terse short stories weaved together with physical and thematic ties. While it is tempting to try and keep track of everything from the outset, don’t. Just sit back and enjoy the film, the pieces will come together as they are meant.

Read on for more details of the plots and my reactions.
