Iron Man movie release date announced

Marvel_logo.jpgMarvel’s Iron Man will be making his cinematic debut May 2nd, 2008. We mentioned a while back that Jon Favreau will be directing. From the press releases, it sounds they’ll be changing his origin a bit from the original. It sounds like the direction they’re going sets up a pretty good replacement origin, though. Judgement will be made in May of 2008!

G4 advertising a major Transformer movie “exclusive”

I don’t make a habit of watching G4, but I caught a little bit of an old show about the history of the NES, and during the commercial break, they were advertising floor coverage of San Diego Comic Con, not unlike their floor coverage of E3.

Anyway, they said on July 21st (or sometime that week) they’ll have some kind of major announcement about the Transformer movie. Phil Bond sarcastically remarked its probably just the trailer, but considering Dreamworks put that big truck on the floor last year, theres still a chance they’ll do something to surprise us.

Transformers Movie Trailer coming soon

tf-teaser.jpgMultiple sources are reporting that the first teaser trailer will be available online July 4th, 2006 on the movie’s website. Three days later a trailer will get a theatrical release with Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest.

Batman & Robin from A-Z

batman-and-robin-01.jpgMany consider the 4th installment of the 90s Batman series, which starred George Clooney as the caped crusader, to be the worst Batman movie, and possibly one of the worst movies ever made. Josh disagrees, and makes a compelling case….

When or if you received my text message last night where I made the bold statement “Batman & Robin is the best batman movie” you must’ve thought I was on drugs and just making an outlandish statement for the sake of making an outlandish statement. While I do like making outlandish statements I don’t truly believe, I stand by what I said.

When you said at champagne brunch that “Batman” needs to be revisited as an adult to be appreciated I was intrigued and thought yes I should watch that again.

I discovered though, the strange voyage of the Batman franchise can be best enjoyed through the prism of watching Batman Begins followed by Batman & Robin.

Jackass Number Two

At last, a sequel.

Wes Anderson’s American Express ad

I’m not prone to free advertising, but I post this here because its clear that Wes Anderson has created a small 2 minute film that happens to reference a credit card at the end. It has as many ridiculous moments as any given 2 minutes in Rushmore.

Marvel Comics movie update

Marvel_logo.jpgiF Magazine spoke with recently resigned Marvel Entertainment head Avi Arad about upcoming film projects he’s working on for Marvel. In additon to breaking news that the next Hulk movie will be a complete “do-over” of the first one, he also says new cartoons for Spider-Man, Wolverine And The X-Men, Fantastic Four, and even Iron Man after that movie is done.
And he clarifies some of this ToyBiz confusion as well:

iF: Switching to toys how do the new HASBRO toy lines look in comparison to the previous TOY BIZ lines?
ARAD: TOY BIZ is very involved in the design of the toys, but the distribution will be through HASBRO. The scale isn’t going to change.

Maybe Marvel Legends isn’t in as much danger as I thought, because Hasbro seems to have no trouble getting mountains of Star Wars, GI Joe and Transformers to market…
