WB, DC announce Teen Titans Movie

teentitans.jpg Hoping to match some of the success of X-Men and Batman Begins, Warners Bros announced today their intentions to bring Teen Titans to theaters.

Hollywood Reporter doesn’t know the lineup yet, but Nightwing will be in there. I wonder if this will take place in the same universe as Batman Begins or Superman Returns? One of the benefits of WB’s ownership of DC is that the rights are all clear for future team-up movies, but if Dick Grayson is already Nightwing, then Batman might as well skip right to Tim Drake… Oh I’m getting ahead of myself here. The point is they have the potential to bring us a really great movie with some characters lesser known outside of the comic world. And if they do keep the tone of Batman and Superman as promised, this could be an amazing movie.

Akiva Goldsman will produce the movie. He won an Academy Award for his screenplay for the Ron Howard directer A Beautiful Mind. He also wrote the Joel Schumacher direct posion Batman & Robin AND Batman Forever, and has produced an amazing list of shabby films. OK, so maybe the odds are stacked against us for an “good” movie, but I’ll hold out hope if the right director, script, and cast come up to bat.

Galactus Not A Cloud?

normal_galactus.gif
There is this crazy internet rumour saying Galactus in the new Fantastic Four movie will be nothing more than a giant cloud.

Geek Monthly has posted an image from a new TV ad for Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer, which clearly shows a shadow being cast over Saturn in the shape of Galactus’ helmet. Could we have been worrying for nothing? Is he going to resember his comic form? Or is it just a cloud shaped like Galactus?

I guess we still won’t know until the movie is actually out, but this little image gives us some hope that we’ll still see a man the size of a planet in a funny purple hat.

Gamestop “Game Days”

GamestopSeems Gamestop is having there huge “Summer Sale” early this year. “Game Days”, which started this past Saturday and will run until June 17th (or while supplies last), features 25% – 50% off many video game titles, accessories, and movies. Things like my beloved Castlevania: Curse of Darkness are going for $9.99. (which makes me hurt inside a bit) Also, trade-ins on hardware count for an extra $20 during this time period, as well as getting some extra cash when you trade in multiple used games.

So if any of you are in the western NY area, back off because I’ve got that as claimed territory. Otherwise, I’d say get in on this if you feel like saving a few bucks on some titles you may be missing from your library or want to get some extra value on your trade-ins.

Dark Knight in IMAX

imaxjoker.jpg
Director Christopher Nolan has announced to USA Today that 4 major action scenes from The Dark Knight, the sequel to Batman Begins, will be filmed in 70mm IMAX film.

I know what you’re thinking: You saw Spider-Man 3, Pirates, Matrix, Star Wars and every other movie available in IMAX for years now. Well this is different, because those features were still shot on 35mm film and simply stretched. No additional detail was made available. By shooting the biggest parts of the movie in IMAX, Nolan will be able to give viewers a real experience you can’t duplicate in a smaller theater or at home.

Of course we don’t know all of what will be big as life in the movie, or how much of the final movie it will be, but Nolan did say the introduction of The Joker would be one of the IMAX scenes. The above image is a slide from that shoot, with two bank robbers wearing clown masks. One of them is the Joker, I’m sure.

Star Wars: Clone Wars

Here’s the trailer for Lucasfilms’ new Clone Wars show. Yep.

Sure looks nice. I guess. Didn’t this show already come out? Oh yeah, it was way back in 2004. I notice some repeat sets, repeat characters, probably repeat events. I know George is fond of Special Editions but did he have to go and order a remake of the only good Star Wars to be commited to the screen this decade? Some 30th Anniversary!

Spider-Man 3 – Recap and Review

SpiderMan 3It’s been approximately three weeks since seeing Spider-Man 3 in theatres, and I figure by this time either you’ve seen the movie, or you don’t plan on seeing it. And now, with Pirates of the Caribbean 3 having come out this past Thursday and my own plans doing an eventual review of that, I should probably get to my previous priority of sharing my take of this movie. I’ve premeditated this more than I should have.

So of course, I had been wanting to see Spider-Man 3 for the longest damn time. As soon as I heard that that they were going to do the black costume story arc, and there was going to be at least an introduction of Venom into the scene, I got about as giddy as I possible could, which says a lot for me. Even after hearing that they were also going to be throwing Sandman in as a villain as well, I was deterred at all, because as I’m sure the rest figured as well, I was hoping this would just be and introduction into Venom story, and they’d actually debut him at the very end of the movie as a teaser, or they’d simply lead up to him showing up fully in a 4th movie. Everything was going to be fine, I assured myself.
