SDCC 2011: The Dark Knight Returns And Other DC Animation

Following a screening of Batman: Year One, WB animation producer Bruce Timm announced to the audience their next movie projects.
The next feature will be Justice League Doom, an adaptation of Tower of Babel. Following that will be Superman vs. The Elite, and then the long await The Dark Knight Returns.

The Dark Knight Returns will be Warner Premier’s first two part feature, and Timm said the movie will be very faithful to the original. No voice cast has been announced by Andrea Romano said she is interested in bringing long time Batman actors Kevin Conroy and Mark Hammill on board. We first reported TDKR would be a future project in April.

Timm was also asked about Kingdom Come as a possible project, but said that the style of the artwork does not lend itself to 2D animation. The Killing Joke remains a possibility for the future.

SDCC 2011: IDW Comics making Transformers #81 happen in 2012

There has been a large fan initiative among the Transformers fandom to continue the original Generation One Marvel comic book that ended somewhat abruptly at issue 80. After it was announced that Larry Hama would be picking up the torch on the original Marvel GI Joe comic, Transformers fans have been clamoring the same to happen for the G1 Marvel comic. Since then, both Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman have voiced their support for such a project and that they would be more than willing to return to their roles as writer and artist, respectively.

The IDW/Hasbro comics panel just ended. Transformers fans were told at the beginning that they will want to stay for the full panel and sure enough, those who did, were treated to the announcement that Transformers #81 would be happening and the series would conclude with issue #100. Mark your calendars, folks. An internet petition actually did something.

‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ 2nd Trailer

This new trailer for Cap focuses strongly on Steve Rogers pre-transformation. The effects to make Chris Evans not only skinny, but short, are really impressive. He’s almost hobbit sized.

“Forty Six & 2” by Tool is used to great effect. A really amazing tune by an amazing band, the movement of the music kicks in right as Steve is revealed and there are hints of some good fights in the second half of the trailer. And because we need to be beaten over the head with the Marvel cinematic universe, Howard Stark (Tony’s father) is featured and named in this trailer too.

An HD version of the trailer is being hosted by Yahoo.

Why isn’t this movie opening on July 4 for the US Independence day? Will you see it?
