Sony Computer Entertainment America Lowers the Price of
PlayStation(R)2

Computer Entertainment System to $129.99

FOSTER CITY, Calif., April 20 /PRNewswire/ — Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. today announced that it has made its PlayStation(R)2 computer entertainment system more affordable than ever throughout North America.

Effective immediately, consumers can purchase the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system for a suggested retail price (SRP) of $129.99/$139.99 CND. The company expects this latest price move to fuel consumer demand even further.

PlayStation 2 is the most popular gaming platform in North America, Europe/PAL territories and Japan/Asia, the only gaming platform to enjoy such widespread global success. To date, more than 101 million PlayStation 2 units and approximately one billion pieces of software for the PlayStation 2 have shipped worldwide, making it the fastest-selling gaming platform in the world.

I was hoping they would cut it to 99.99 like the Gamecube. That was clearly not what they had in mind though.

The Horrors Of Zelda

zeldawand.jpgWe’ve all heard about this nasty CDi games. EGM seems obsessed with bringing them up in nearly every issue. Well now some kindly soul has uploaded videos of the introduction and ending cutscenes from both games. Watch if you dare…

If you’ve got 20 minutes, a broadband connection, and a hankerin’ to see what Moore has to say its worth watching. He doesn’t stay on message as much as the infamous EGM interview. If you don’t have the time, I’ll bulletpoint some of the important bits…

MLG goes to USA

mlg.jpgMajor Leage Gaming has landed a major deal with the USA Network to broadcast its 2006 Championship Season in 7 hour-long installments.
See the MLG coverage blitz in action.
Two games definitely on the roster this year are long-time favorites Super Smash Brothers Melee on Gamecube and Halo 2 on Xbox. New games may be added later, but these 2 titles will be present at every event.
This should be a heck of a show. I don’t know how well it will play to non-gamers, but Halo and SSBM players shouldn’t miss this.

$20 game of the week: Final fantasy – Dawn of Souls (GBA)

ff12.jpgIn late 2004, Squaresoft released this 1-cart compiliation of the orgins of it’s flagship FInal fantasy series, complete with new graphical upgrades to update the look to the 16-bit games in the series. These match the similarily packed Final fantsy origins, released for the original Playstation a few years back. Even though there are no prerendered sequences in this version (obviously) the new features such as 4 new random dungeons in FF 1 (featuring familiar bosses from other titles in the Final Fantasy series), and an all new subchapter in Final fantasy 2 (featuring the characters who have died during the main game) more than make up for it. Both titles allow you to save anywhere, making them perfect for long trips. Although they are difficult and as old school as they come (complete with random encounters), they are the perfect trip back in time for old school RPG fans.

Halo 3 Trailer

I hope this is everything we’ve all come to expect.

The Family Guy Game

familyguy.jpg1up previews the Family Guy game
Say, what are the odds this game is going to be… terrible?
The absolute best they can do is retread jokes from the show and not turn in an unplayable mess. Think I’m wrong? Try digging out some South Park and Simpsons games from a bargain bin. The Simpsons arcade game is argueably the only good game to be based on a comedy show, and it just aped the sidescrolling beat-em-up style of TMNT, Final Fight, Double Dragon et al. Do I even bother mentioning Friends?

Red Steel

redsteel.jpg The first revealed Nintendo Revolution title Red Steel has its official site up. Not that there is anything there. Even with a UbiSoft login in, clicking past the splash page just redirects you to their main site.
Some real news has trickled out though:

“Despite the influences and the apparent change in opinion towards more mature content by Nintendo, TVG has learnt that the game will not feature gratuitous violence and is unlikely to feature blood as a result.”

Thats from Totalvideogames via 4CR.
Should we even get worked up about no blood? I don’t think so. Anyone play Black? Fantastic gunplay, lots of explosions, guys dying every 3 or 4 seconds the entire legnth of the game, and not a DROP of blood. Most critics didn’t mention this because it was a lot less important than the game itself, which i hope Red Steel will be as well.
