I don’t really watch video game videos that often. if someone would come up with video game videos that are also games, my mind would be blown. Anyway…..Usually, it’s either a trailer, or a clip that’s highlighting a certain scene or an interesting glitch or something like that. I watched the Waggleton P. Tallylicker video from Bulletstorm far too many times just because that was my favorite part of the game. I did however, really enjoy watching Let’s Play Silent Hill Blind by LOrdVega. Silent Hill, being one of my favorite games of course. I was annoyed early on, but I was laughing my ass off by the end. Speed runs are….sometimes fun when they’re legit. More often than not though, it’s all glitches and scams and it hurts my faith in humanity.I actually recorded myself playing Final Fantasy III(VI) all the way through many many years ago. I just attached the SNES to the VCR and did it like that. I have often thought about uploading that massive project to YouTube, but I really don’t want the resulting suicides on my head.I loved the video you guys put up awhile back of the dude failing at Rock Man (or was it Mega Man)? Either way, it was good stuff.

Did you see the official videos that Quantic Dream put up for Heavy Rain? It goes through the possible decisions you can make with an opening area of the game by linking them together as annotations.

I thought it was a fan parody at first, showing that the game is little more than a choose-your-own-adventure movie and not really a game per se — a criticism I’ve leveled against Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy. Actually, since it was official, I find it MORE funny that it didn’t occur to them…

You don’t really understand the concept of a tool assisted speedrun (TAS) do you? They don’t play in the same league as normal speedruns. And most often than not, are more fun and interesting to watch.

And all the TASes I watched on youtube, have message at the beginning stating that this is a tool assisted speedrun. so no one gets scammed.

My god….Megaman? Mind. Blown. That is unbelievable. Those guys really uncovered something I had always kinda thought might be going on, but totally proved it. If you can play 4 games simultaneously with 1 controller, what is that saying for Megaman? Still love the games of course, but now I see how easy it was for Capcom to pump out 6 games for the NES.

I can see your point though. If you want to put out a video that shows what a perfect game can look like, it can take some tools and time to do it. Nothing so different than a film I suppose which uses editing and whatnot. Touche.

Oh I get the concept. I just think it’s pointless. I’ve seen plenty on YouTube that don’t mention tools or glitches like the guy who beat Zelda II in less than 6 minutes. Walking through walls and things like that. Nah, not for me.

It’s funny, I don’t actually *watch* those youtube videos, but I appreciate them.. When I am considering buying a games (this will usually be a famicom game on ebay or something, not a new one), I will often look up a youtube video of someone playing the game.. I don’t actually watch the whole video, I just want to see what the game is like so I know if I would probably like it, or even if it is playable without extensive Japanese language knowledge. So they have their uses, but it’s not entertainment.. I’d assume there are several hits on unboxing videos that are like that as well, where people are just looking for an answer to “does the box include X” or whatever.

You shouldn’t be worried about the quantity of hits anyway.. You should be worried about the *quality* of hits.. Afterall, one hit from me is worth at least 10k hits from those other shmucks 🙂

Also, this podcast reminded me, did you ever release the video of Sean playing in the tournament at tgs? If so, please point me to it, I wanna see and you said at one point this video existed! hehe

Also, these are some pretty damn cool videos. NES games in 1080p. They take entire game maps and play them as if they were one huge overworld. Hard to explain, but check it out.

I actually watch Let’s Plays fairly often. I find I don’t have enough time to play games, so LPs let me get through my pile of shame with minimal effort.

Some of that is probably a holdover from when I was a kid and it was as much fun to watch my older brother play video games well as it was to play them badly myself.

I watch the occasional “let’s play” video, but that’s mostly because one of my old room mates runs a series of them. Without commentary, I find them boring. With bad commentary (which I think is like 95+%), I find them annoying. Because I know my old room mate and I watched him play through a good number of RPGs during college, there’s almost a bit of a nostalgia factor in watching his “let’s play” videos.

I guess I don’t like watching people play video games, but rather I like to watch my friends play video games, whether pre-recorded or not.

Always glad to hear about new episodes of Famicom Dojo. I don’t watch a lot of Lets Play videos, unless you count Game Center CX. I’ve found many a great import game through that show.
