Herman Cain loves Pokemon

A while back Herman Cain, a Republican Party Presidential nominee, referenced “a poet” and dropped the following inspirational quote:

Life can be a challenge, life can seem impossible, but it’s never easy when there’s so much on the line

It turned out this quote was actually from the main song from “Pokémon: The Movie 2000”. “The Power of One” was sung by Donna Summer.

Herman Cain recently identified this as coming from “the Pokémon movie”. He has also mentioned that he believed it was used in the 2000 Olympics closing ceremonies, which has been met with some criticism by those who believe this to be untrue.

I don’t recall any of the specifics but I can confirm that this song was indeed used in TV coverage of the Olympics at one time. I recognized it myself only because I had seen the movie and listened to the soundtrack a great number of times. Unfortunately I am unable to find any specifics on how and when this was used. It was not a live performance, the music was simply added in.

Maybe if Herman Cain had referenced one of the better Pokémon films, his campaign would have had more success.

While I have my Pokemon: The Movie 2000 DVD out, here’s a great line from the film:
