My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Gets Snubbed in Emmy Nominations!

Fans of all things good and pony filled were disappointed to learn that the hit show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic received ZERO Daytime Emmy nominations this year. Another show on Hasbro’s network “The Hub”, Transformers Prime, received a total of 6 underserved nominations.

It’s becoming more and more clear now that even amongst Transformers fans, who one would imagine would be predisposed to like a Transformers show, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a much more beloved and popular show.

Why would such an objectively superior show get ignored in favour of a fairly uncompelling run of the mill Transformers series? One that no fan would mention if asked to count their favourite Transformers shows on one hand? A show that replaced a fan favourite superior version and completely failed to live up to the precedent? Well it’s an awards show. If these idiots ever got it right, that would be the real surprise.

So ignore the Emmys, because they suck, and this is just another fine example. A well deserved Emmy win is as unexpected as a show accurate Applejack hat.

Of course Transformers Prime would be included if I counted my favorite Transformers series on one hand. It would be #3 after Beast Wars and Animated, but it definitely ranks higher than everything else Transformers, Generation 1 included. And to knock Transformers Prime out of the top five, you’d have to include one of the sea of Transformers anime, most of which are laughable.

So, yes, Transformers Prime wouldn’t get counted on my one hand if I really liked Transformers: Energon for some brain-damaged reason and I were Rahm Emanuel.

Well I’m not really a trannie and never really watched animated, I’m just cueing off the general level of apathy the fan community seems to have around Prime. I’m surprised you wouldn’t rank G1 higher and would expect at least that over Prime if I had to predict general fan appreciation. FiM is not “great” by any stretch of the imagination. It’s pretty average. But since prior MLP incarnations beforehand were just total crap, average looks amazing. “It’s not as bad as those other MLP shows” is probably the highest praise it’s going to get, and deserves.

MLP:FiM is an average show. Average Characters (The Silly One, The Bookworm, The Diva, The Shy One…). Average Scenarios. Average everything.

I’m a Brony-that’s a given based on my profile picture-but I gotta say, I’m not surprised. The show is very entertaining, but�predictable. Plus, the animation is above average, but not mind-blowing.

I have kept up to date on both Transformers Prime and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and have found them both to be quality shows. Neither of them is “run of the mill,” and both have amazing creative talent behind them through producers, artists, and voice actors. Both are also extremely different. Friendship explores day-to-day life (in an Equestria sense) while Prime explores the ravages of war time. Yet both are able to tell compelling stories and show how different situations can affect characters and takes morals and values beyond the shallow goody-two-shoes but also show the implications. Both are clean, deep, enjoyable shows. While I do believe that Friendship is deserving of an award, Prime deserved each of its nominations and it wins.
Don’t knock either until you tried them.

The fact is that the new MLP is one of the greatest animations ever created by American studios. The idea that an award show would ignore their great accomplishment IS a bit puzzling.

One of the greatest animations? Really? I love Transformers Animated and Prime, but I’d hardly say either of them are “some of the greatest animations ever created by American studios.” What I WOULD put up there are shows like the DCAU, or Avatar: The Last Airbender, or Samurai Jack, or old school Simpsons, or movies like Fantasia, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Secret of Nimh, Up, Wall-E, The Iron Giant and the Toy Story series, or, yannow, old cartoons like the original Looney Tunes. Compared to those, TFP and MLP are equally overwhelmed.

Based on everything from animation quality, to execution, to voice acting, story, etc, my two favorite American shows ever are Avatar the Last Airbender followed by MLP FiM followed probably by Adventure Time (if nothing else, but for pure entertainment value).

Clearly if you’re going to bring in movies, the list gets a lot longer, but I wasn’t including them since this is about TV series.

I can see where you’re coming from, but you didn’t specify it was just TV cartoons. Really, I don’t think FiM is anything more than a really good cartoon for girls that doesn’t talk down to its audience and is actually clever enough for people of all ages. However, I really don’t think it qualifies as “one of the greatest cartoons created by American studios” when it’s not much more than a good cartoon when all is said and done. Maybe it’ll be remembered as one after it’s run its course, but who knows?

Yes, you’re right, I didn’t specify. As for FiM quality, I’ve been a close watcher of most things animated for years and years. Not professionally of course and I’m not in the business, just a lover and respector of great work.

Every taste is different (for instance I HATE King of the Hill. HATE!) while many people seem to love it. For me, quality voices, deliver, expressiveness, creativity, fun, and above all, story plot and events that have continuity and make actual sense count for a lot. The shows I most respect fit all of these and are why I listed them the way I did.

It’s cool if you disagree, but you can probably see why I wouldn’t include the Simpsons in my list based on what I look for. It was great at the time and certainly earned its place in history, but it definitely doesn’t make the cut for me anymore.

What I’ve loved best about MLP has been the amazing facial expressions! �(especially in the ones where one of them goes temporarily loca) �Sometimes I like to pause it every frame just to see the animation of their faces. �Talk about showing your work! Nice job, animators, you always make me laugh.
Also as somebody who has worked with children, I think the show does a great job with the characters. �The mane six have distinctive personalities and are genuinely good-hearted without being bland and unrealistic little-miss-perfects. �Can you think of any show on TV that have better female role models? �Most other cartoons have girl characters with shrewish or bland�personalities, and rarely have two or more good female characters. Somebody on TVtropes pointed out that the writers seem to be trying to show girls “how to deal with bitches without becoming bitches themselves.” �

Let me start off by saying that I DO NOT hate My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, rather it’s overrated (that is, of course, my opinion).�
First of all, just because something is “more popular”, it does not mean that it deserves more �praise than another show. I have seen a handful of episodes of Transformers Prime and I think it is vastly underrated, along with every other show on The Hub because of MLP.
While it’s definitely not up-to-par with the original Transformers series and may need some improvement in several aspects, TP is still a fairly enjoyable series with plenty of intense action that shouldn’t go unnoticed. It is also an intelligent series with a derived plot and maintains an overall serious tone, without delving into the boring aspects too much.
Whereas MLP, just got discovered by luck. People praise the show for its humor and characters, but forget to give credit to the original MLP, which Lauren Faust (the creator of MLP: FiM) based it off. MLP began in generation one, similarly to Transformers, both being popular toy lines. While I do admit the show is a good one (definitely much better than some of the crap they’ve been passing off as entertainment lately), I just think it got more attention than deserved. I am definitely not a fan of the show, but I’m not going to hate on it simply because it’s overrated, which is a stupid reason.
To be honest, I’m not a regular viewer of either shows, but, like I said, TP needs more attention. It’s a great series with good intention, so I don’t blame them for choosing it, instead of hopping on the bandwagon and choosing MLP just because it has a larger fanbase.�
Besides, an Emmy should not affect the show and its fans. So what if it doesn’t get one? People shouldn’t be upset just because the show didn’t win. Enjoy it for what it is and care less of what others think of it.
(Keep in mind, this is MY OPINION and should not affect you in anyway, thank you…)

Wow, a lot of trans-fans and junior high schoolers on this website. Too insecure in their own maturity or sexually immature to watch a “girl’s show” lest they get cooties. “It’s nothing special… just a really good show FOR GIRLS.” Is there anything else that need be said about the chauvinism of online culture which is dominated by the shoutings of immature teenage guys who feel threatened by Bronies even while they obsess over magical girl anime and poor imitations of classic fighting robot cartoons that, while beloved by all, were much poorer drawn and written than FiM? Who’s the manchildren? And yes, admittedly some bronies are immature teenagers too. The reality is that purely as a matter of quality, FiM is probably the best animated TV show since Looney Tunes, certainly since the early 90s. There’s a reason the fanbase went viral and it was the quality of the show and its strong message (including of gender equality and positivity, as opposed to the cynicism and ridiculous conflict obsession of most other stuff on commercial TV) that people turned on looking to make fun of, and ended up loving.

Yeah, I’ve been watching both shows and they are both great. Obviously this “Adom” person did not do very good homework. Prime is in my opinion, one of the best Transformer cartoon recreations that I’ve seen yet. Friendship is magic is a wonderful new beginning for the My Little pony franchise, but as far as animation goes Prime is up to date and for the time being has a more compelling story. I am not surprised at all that it was nominated over Friendship is magic one bit, though the pony show is very good.
