Mega man 9 was a clever throwback to the franchise’s NES origins. It resonated so well with players that Capcom decided to take the Blue Bomber on another trip down memory lane with Mega Man 10. A virus has gripped robots all around the world, including Mega Man’s ‘sister’ Roll. Thus, Mega Man has to team with his ‘brother’ Protoman to find a cure. It’s classic 8-bit Mega Man action, just the way you like it, although it has a few new twists.

Mega man 10 has a few new features. First of all, players can choose to play as either Mega Man or Protoman at the start of the game. Protoman can slide and charge his weapon, making him a nice alternative from Mega Man. For a few bucks more, players can purchase downloadable content which allows them to play as Bass. Bass has the ability to shoot in different directions, also giving him an edge over Mega man. You can also access time attack modes and purchase challenge levels over Xbox live and PSN. There is also an easy mode, which allows lesser skilled players to enjoy the game without the challenge scaring them off.

Besides that, MM10 sticks to the same formula as the past entries: battle 8 bosses, choose what order to take them on, gain their weapons, and figure out what works on who. Nothing new here, but then again, why fix what isn’t broke? The stages have nice backdrops and catchy tunes, even if some of the bosses are less than inspired (Sheep-man? Pump-man? Come on now).

MM10 is another old school style romp and another solid entry in a franchise that has stood the test of time. For those expecting something different, Capcom will hopefully deliver it with Mega Man Universe. Until then MM10 does a good job of keeping us busy.
