Hey, your booth at Geek.Kon was definitely my favorite! I bought one of those Final Fantasy WonderSwan Color sets, but can’t seem to get it to power on. I don’t know if there was some special way to turn it one other then just the power button, but I just get an occasional line to flash across the screen. I’ve 2 different alkaline and 1 lithium 1.5v batteries and still have the same one line blip or nothing. I was wondering if you knew what was up with this issue?
Thanks

Thanks for the kind words!
You’re in luck — the system is fine, it’s just that your cartridge is dirty.
Later on Saturday I ran out to get some cleaning supplies, because this was a problem for other WonderSwan games as well as Famicom and Super Famicom cartridges. After that, I had nary a problem.
I bought 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol (available in any first aid store aisle), but one kind patron suggested trying to get something closer to 91%. The reason is that the rest of the solution is made of water, and that 30% could possibly corrode the contacts and make things even worse. Since WonderSwan contacts are alway exposed, you might have to clean them more regularly than other cartridges, so this is good advice.
That was a great question! I plan on including it next time we film another Dojo Mailbag segment for the show.
Thanks!
