Marvel Unveils Shiny New Captain America

Today Marvel unveiled the new Captain America, designed by renowned painter of super ~~grandpas~~ heroes; Alex Ross. While the design shares much with the classic Cap design there are some notable changes such as the black pants, the lack of chainmail, and the gat. Writer Ed Brubaker states that this new Cap isn’t Steve Rogers and indeed all signs point to Cap’s former partner and the Winter Soldier; Bucky Barnes. We’ve got more pictures after the jump.

Except for the unneccessary shiny bits, I dig the new look. We’ll see how long it lasts, once Steve comes back in a black-and-silver Punisher-esque getup to take his role back from the cyborg Cap, kid clone cap, Iron Cap, and this Eradicator Cap.

aDam: What happened was that on one of his early arcs when he took over Captain America, Brubaker retconned it so that Bucky didn’t actually die in the explosion, (seeing as how no remains were found) but he merely lost an arm in the explosion, and was captured and brainwashed by Russian agents.

Of course he did. Hawkeye has prowess with anything. There’s an issue in the Ultimates where he tears his own fingernails out and flicks them at his captors, severing vital neck arteries. That guy is hardcore.

That said, I like the new Cap’s look, and the implication that he’s going to be a much angrier character than Steve Rogers.

Except that’s Ultimate Hawkeye, not 616. That’s not to say that regular Hawkeye isn’t all shades of awesome, because he is.

I’m not 100% on the new look, but unlike a lot of people I’ve heard, I dig the knife and gun. He is supposed to be a soldier after all.
