I had not played the game when I first watched this movie at an anime convention in 2005. It motivated me to play the game and, now that I have, I can rewatch the game and say “oooh I get that part” but that being said there’s no need to have played to game to understand or enjoy this movie. Yes it’s riddled with references but anything important is explained within the context of the movie.

Isnt there a single DVD release for this movie already? Anyway if you’re not a real fan of FF7 then a costly boxset with a few postcards and an extra 20 minute anime would not be worth it, since you can get the original DVD for a much cheaper price. And theres news about a release in BlueRay version, which is like a revamp of the original DVD version with improved CGs and extra scenes.
