The Continuing Death of Captain America

In our ongoing coverage of Captain America’s alleged passing, two new developments have recently come to light. First, Joe Quesada (editor-in-chief of Marvel) sent a Cap’s shield over to Stephen Colbert for safekeeping, and we’ve got the video from the show to prove it. Secondly, there’s a strange new Punisher image that Marvel put out for circulation. See it side-by-side with the cover to Punisher: War Journal issue 7, and the video from The Colbert Report, after the jump.
Know what’s awesome about Colbert? He referenced its construction of Wakandan Vibranium without any prompting from Quesada’s letter. The man does his research. The rather entertaining video is viewable below:
According to Tom Brevoort, the shield comes from him, and it was initially given to him by the late Mark Gruenwald, whose successes include the original, groundbreaking Squadron Supreme. I hope Colbert knows what a treasure he actually has in his offices there.
Secondly, Marvel has revealed a Captain America/Punisher image that seems to pick up on the thread from Civil War where the Punisher ended up with Cap’s mask. Seeing it next to the cover of Punisher: War Journal #7 (out in May) suggests it may be a variant cover to that issue… But anything more than that is just speculation. Hell, even that was speculation. Well, just look for yourself:
