New Flash Director Announced

Hot on the heels of the announcement of Goyer’s dismissal, the Hollywood Reporter brings us news of the new director – Shawn Levy. So, what’s the man done before to warrant helming such a film? Well, according to IMDb, his most recent movies are: Night at the Museum, The Pink Panther, Cheaper By The Dozen, Just Married, and Big Fat Liar.

Holy. Crap. What an unimpressive list of action-movie/comic-movie credentials. Now, don’t get me wrong – I thoroughly enjoyed Night at the Museum, but I know some here at Powet cringe at its mention, and that’s not even touching the rest of the movies on that list. To be fair though, Levy did direct one episode of the short-lived Birds Of Prey show. And maybe it was a really well-directed episode. I’m pretty sure no one ever bothered to watch it, so it’s hard to say.

In the end, it’s only fair to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, especially until we find out a lot more (like, say, the writer). But this doesn’t exactly strike me as a step in the right direction.

I cringe at the mention of any of those movies.

No offense to fans of the Flash but it’s fine by me if they waste a bad director and bad comic franchise on each other.

The Flash has excellent potential, not to mention a good history as a comic book character. I don’t know how well it holds up, but I clearly recall sitting with my brother and dad and watching the old Flash TV show. The Flash as a franchise at the very least had enough power to hold my family in front of the TV on a regular basis, and with the wealth of comics to draw from, a good quality movie really shouldn’t be any problem to crank out.

I really hope they prove you wrong by making a seriously badass movie… But the fact that they took the well-qualified Goyer off of it, along with a script that he was proud of… This doesn’t bode well for anyone hoping they make a movie that will impress the name of The Flash into the minds of people as he so very much deserves.

For anyone who is true fan of the flash, like myself i say lets see where they go with it. if they stick with original plot lines and such, unlike batman begins, don’t get me wrong the movie was fine, but you cant take background liberty’s with a comic character that has been around as long as the dark knight, superman or the flash just to name a few, as for who’s going to write it, personally i think the guys who wrote the smallville episode “Run” would be a good choice as the Bart Allen character said things that were cryptic clues to his origins in the comic books (even though hes Impulse and not the Flash) and his personality was dead on im my opinion. so long rant short…….errr too l8.

Im sorry goyer is gone, but he really seemed to have an affinity for the character, i hoped he would do it justice in writing and directing. after all if the writer is the director he knows exactly what he wants to see on screen, (I this i know cause ive dabbled in both myself) but every director has travel into uncharted territory for themselves one day, sometimes they shine sometimes they dont. lets give the new guy a chance who knows maybe he’ll surprise us
