In a slap to the face of all comic fans in the New England area, Wizard World Boston has been cancelled.

CANCELLATION NOTICE
Wizard World Boston 2006 cancelled

After speaking to our exhibitors and partners, all of whom shared our concerns about the outside costs of doing business at this time, Wizard World Boston has been cancelled. This is an industry decision, and we want to do what�s best for the industry.

We are thankful to the 8,800 fans that attended last year�s event and hope to return to Boston in the near future. We�re now focused on making sure that our other scheduled 2006 events in L.A., Philly, Chicago and Texas are the best Wizard World shows ever.

The East coast has once again received the shaft from the Comic Cons. As a resident of the area, I am ready to get all my friends and start a good old fashioned Red Sox riot.

if wizard world has to cancel with a previous year attendance of 8,800, then you gotta figure nobrandcon’s success with 600 would be a GIVEN for a new con in boston. you could probably get a thousand local nerds just handing out flyers on campus.

The great thing about Wizard World Boston was that it was an enormous convention with all the companies and dealers and art and artists that don’t really have my prime interest, but are a heavy second interest of mine. We have AnimeBoston, but thats obviously not comic books and certainly doesn’t have the toy dealers Wizard World had. (not to mention Eliza Dushku) I mean I even got Josh Middleton to sign a poster for me. I wouldn’t have the time or energy to do something like that. I barely have enough time just to post on the front page of powet.tv. Perhaps something to keep in mind for the coming years though.

Further proof that Wizard World cons are a bad thing. They’ve made a clear effort to muscle out pre-existing comic conventions in a few areas, and what’s to stop them from pulling this kind of crap a few years down the road in those places? Jerks.
