After hearing rumors that Sam Raimi and the film studios were at a standstill over a number of aspects over the third sequel in this franchise, news of delays, and the contention over just who the villains were going to be, it has come to pass that the movie has been cancelled with Sam Raimi and Toby Maguire walking away. Sony Studios has been quick to announce that they will be rebooting the franchise in 2012, putting Peter Parker back in high school.
This news comes not long after the prequel to X-Men featuring Magneto also was announced to be dead in the water, in favor of a different prequel to follow the formation of the X-Men.
Sadly, this means that prequels and reboots are still in vogue and won’t be dying in the near future like the uncreative fads they have become.

Take this news with a grain of salt since I haven’t seen it up anywhere else, but according to this article over at marketwatch.com, it looks like Disney is going to acquire Marvel Entertainment and all its characters including Spider-Man, The Hulk, The Avengers, and the X-Men. As a result it looks like Marvel’s stock price has shot up 25%, while Disney’s is actually down 1.5 %.
[UPDATE] Press release from Marvel is here.

Line ups have been announced for the next 2 waves of Marvel Minimates.
Series 25
(New) Captain America & Red Skull
Red Hulk & Ska’ar
Iron Man & AIM Agent
VARIANT: “Bolt-Face” Iron Man & AIM Agent
Series 26
Wolverine & Deadpool
Gambit & Psylocke
Sabretooth & Skrull
VARIANT: First Appearance Sabretooth & Skrull
It was mentioned that there were going to be Army Builder figures in these waves, but I am extremely diappointed to see they won’t be packaged together. So if you want two 3 AIM Agents, you have to have 3 Iron Men. As if we didn’t have enough already. At least they aren’t packaged with Wolverine.
While not officially announced, there seems to be some control art (and pre-order pages) floating about the inter-tubes for the Terminator 2 license, prior to which was unknown to even be held by Diamond Select.

In a move sure to aggravate fans of the two highly anticipated waves of Hasbro’s Marvel Legends, The Red Hulk wave will be a Target exclusive wave and the Nemesis wave will be a Wal-mart exclusive wave. The wave is set to include:
Adam Warlock
Back In Black Spider-man
Silver Savage
Spiral
Union Jack
X-Force Wolverine
VARIANT: Wolverine
The Wal-Mart wave is due to hit retail in December of 2008 at US$9.99 per figure.
This wave is set to include:
Astonishing Beast
BlackBolt
Nova
Punisher
Tigra
Yellow Daredevil
VARIANT: Camo Punisher w/ painted face
VARIANT: Red Daredevil
VARIANT: Blue Tint BlackBolt

Welcome back to Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters. This is part 2 of our special edition X-men $20 GOTW and lost classics. In the first part we looked at some of the lows of the X-men franchise. In this second part, we’ll take a look at the Marvel Vs Capcom series, as well as Activision’s X-men games. You can find pretty much all of these games in stores, and most of them retail for $20 or less.

While we haven’t talked much about it on the site, I came across some more details on the new Spider-man animated series coming to the CW network. It will be premiering March 8 at 10AM EST. I didn’t realize it at first, but it appears that the character designs are actually done by
Sean “Cheeks” Galloway, whom some of you may know from his character design work for the Hellboy Animated movies.
