EA has thrown its stake in the ground, and determined that it does not need or care to support Nintendo on the Wii U. No Frosbite engine, no current development on Wii U, and a senior developer who openly tweeted that Nintendo’s console platform was “crap”. So much for that “unprecedented partnership”! Vinnk and Sean make the obvious comparisons to Dreamcast (which was the last console EA totally shut out), speculate on the future of proprietary, company-branded game console hardware, and try to determine if Nintendo even needs EA in this generation… or any other.

Watching the Xbox One unveiling, one could be forgiven for thinking that Microsoft doesn’t seem to see itself as a games publisher, or the Xbox One as a gaming console. During the event, Microsoft made a big deal about how the company wanted to change the way gamers related to their TVs, but said nothing about wanting to change their relationship with game retailers as well.
One of the many interesting things about the PS4 is the name itself, since one of the Japanese words for “Four” is also the word for “death”. Prophetic, given the state of Sony and the PS3, or just a harmless pun? They’ll need a lot of killer apps to overcome that name, amiright? (Thanks to @Cheesemeister3k for that joke.) Sean and Vinnk discuss the PS4 reveal, the DualShock 4 controller redesign, and whether or not either of them will be getting one. Sony, y u no show console? Ah, no matter. What matters is the games, right? We try to find something to hold on to since we only have a list of titles and no price… or box… or…

Even though EA just released the much sought after Seasons less than two months ago, they got 5 new add-ons (3 expansion packs and 2 stuff packs) coming throughout the next twelve months. This month will see the release of 70, 80s, and 90s Stuff, a stuff pack that will add outfits, hairstyles, and objects inspired by….you guessed it, the 70s, 80s, and 90s. This March, EA will bring us University Life, another much-requested expansion pack. From young adult to elder, Sims can enroll in a higher learning institute, pick one of several majors, and earn a career boost after graduation. They can also join one of three different groups; Nerds, Jocks, and Rebels (no foreign exchange students, goths, or ethnic identity clubs?). While not much more info about the game has been released, as you can see in the trailer above, Sims can engage in beer pong, paint graffiti, participate in student protests, pose naked for paintings, and a bunch of other fun stuff. The game will feature a new city with a comic book shop and a coffeehouse. This game is going to recreate my college experience to a T. [Read the rest of this entry…]
The Wii U exclusive Zombi U is a sequel (of sorts) to Ubisoft’s first game, but many people already want it on other platforms. Some people won’t play Bayonetta 2 as long as it’s on Nintendo’s new console, even though Nintendo was the company that published it. Rayman Legends looks amazing, but — again — is only available on the Wii U. Do these hopers hope agains hope, or are their predictions as futile as that of an impending apocalype purportedly predicted by Mayans thousands of years ago?
Sean and Vinnk examine exclusivity: console games, DLC, games developed by second parties that made their way to a competitor’s console, or stuff that third-party developers swore would never be released on other platforms, but somehow made their way their anyway.

For as long as the Wii has been around, fans and critics alike maligned it for not supporting the HD or hardcore gaming crowd. There’s no way it can be a success! Now that the Wii U is out, supporting even HDMI out of the box (a first for consoles), and now it has a hard time supporting older televisions and standard definition. Nintendo is turning its back on classic gaming!
Vinnk and Sean explore why the launch of the Wii U wasn’t quite the same as that of its predecessor (also the only console launch of any kind since the Wii), wonder how it will stack up against the eventual and unannounced competition as it ages, and discuss the importance of getting a cake from the Japanese police department. Oh, and the wisdom of releasing Mass Effect 3 for full price when all three games are available on other consoles for the same amount.
