Bond 23 killed without license due to MGM debt

The 23rd film in the James Bond film franchise has been canned. MGM, one of the franchise’s backers from the start, is heavily in debt. Many are quick to point out that this will not be the end of the series featuring the covert british agent with a license to kill. It will only be a matter of time before another company picks up the rights. It appears that Spyglass Entertainment is most likely frontrunner to pick things up, with Summit Entertainment (those responsible for the Twilight films) not far behind. This 23rd installment was to star Daniel Craig returning to the role with Sam Mendes directing. It seems likely that both will be pursuing other opportunities very soon.

MGM’s debt has affected other films currently in limbo as well, most notably The Hobbit.

“I Love Hoe Bags” Shirt in Wizards of Waverly Place

I love hoe bags shirt

I spotted this shirt in an episode of the Disney TV show “Wizards of Waverly Place” earlier this week. Here we have Selena Gomez’s character Alex Russo wearing an interesting shirt. It’s hard to see what the full text on this shirt says but from the two shorts scenes it’s shown in the only visible letters for the most part read “I <3 Hoe Bags".

Alex Russo loves hoe bags I love ho bags

Is this specific shirt placement intentional? It seems like quite an oversight to have half a shirt’s message obstructed from view in a well assembled outfit on the show’s main character but this could just be a coincidence. The text of the full shirt is “I <3 Shoes, Bags & Boys“. I don’t know that this message is terribly well reflected in a show that doesn’t really focus on a girl’s love of bags that much. No shortage of shoes and boys though…

If you’re looking for the episode in which this shirt appears it’s the 5th episode of season 2, “Alex’s Brother Maximan” in which Justin builds a robot, Max dresses up as a superhero to fight crime and Alex has a date with Dean at the skate park. The shirt appears around the middle of the episode.

Lost Classics: Morrowind (PC, Xbox)

morrowindTo call the third entry in Bethsheda’s Elder Scrolls series a fantasy Grand Theft Auto would be a serious understatement. While progression in the GTA games is tied to the plot, there is seemingly no limit to what could be done in Morrowind. While there was a story, you were not obligated to follow it. You can rise to the head of a guild, level grind yourself into a tank or an ultra-mage, or just plunder for treasure all day. You can even become a vampire or werewolf and spend your nights stalking victims. If it wasn’t for the combat system, it would most likely have become one of the PC’s top titles as well as an Xbox system seller.

$20 Game of the Week: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (Nintendo DS)

gtacwI can’t blame anyone for being leery about another Grand Theft Auto on a Nintendo portable. After all, the first effort, a Game Boy Color version of GTA 2 was horrible, and while 2005’s Grand Theft Auto Advance was slightly better, it still wasn’t anything to write home about. So how does The Nintendo DS entry Chinatown Wars succeed where others have failed? Simple, it combines classic GTA action with stylus driven gameplay to make a fun package that’s every bit as engaging as its console cousins.

Powet Alphabet: A is for Apple ][

Since the alphabet is the building block of our language, the Powet Alphabet is the building block of what makes us geeks.

The New Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield

andrew-garfield26 year old actor Andrew Garfield has been cast as the “new” “young” “teenage” Spider-Man in Sony’s next film based on the hero. Marc Webb will direct from a script by James Vanderbilt.

Who cares? I mean honestly Tobey Maguire might be pushing 40 and the last flick the old guard did wasn’t great, but theres almost nothing about a new Spider-Man that could be remotely interesting now. Chalk that up to a decade of super fatigue, from when Spider-Man stood alone as one of the best to only a number in a field of more entertaining hero films.

What say you, true believers? Does this new Spidey have a shot or is this just another white kid in tights?

Press release follows.
