Marvel’s Ultimates 3 Issue 1 Cover

Ultimates 3 Issue 1 Cover Post Banner

IGN seems to have the cover to the first issue for the third installment of the Ultimates book. It appears to be a slightly new lineup of Ultimates facing off against the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Venom and maybe Storm? I haven’t been keeping up on the Ultimate books lately outside of the Ultimates itself. Thankfully thats been on a schedule I can keep up with; about two issues a year.

$20 Game of the Week: Freedom Force vs the Third Reich (PC)

ffv3r.jpgThis game is the sequel to 2002’s Freedom Force, which is one of the best games inspired by comic books without actually being based on one. The game featured a wide array of characters, RTS-style controls, and a look right out of a 1960s Jack Kirby comic. You fought against an assortment of weird communism-worshiping villains inspired by the Silver Age of comics. The game was also modable, allowing players to add in new characters, missions, and campaigns to the experience. In 2005, Irrational Games released a sequel containing even more comic goodness, and this time, it took gamers to the golden age of comics, and Freedom Force fought against the evil of the Nazis.

Be Kind Rewind

Its a fair assumption that all of the Powet Crew are fans of Michel Gondry. If it wasn’t his films like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, it was his music videos like “Everlong” by the Foo Fighters

This is the trailer for Gondry’s latest movie “Be Kind Rewind” starring Jack Black and Mos Def. These actors from the world of music are video store clerks who through tragic circumstances must recreate classic movies to keep their store open.

Harry Potter in 3D!

Hot 3D!!!

I’ve always been a fan of 3D technology. Being a huge fan of the show The Bots Master and of optical illusions in general it’s a concept which always fascinated me. With such juvenile movies as Spy Kids and Shrek being the main 3D movies in theatres lately I was excited to hear that Harry Potter, a movie which was actually paleteable to me, had 3D in it. Excited, that is, until I actually got to see it.

I went to see the movie in Imax and though the 3D was only for the last 15 minutes or so of the movie it was so bad that I would have gladly watched the movie on normal film to avoid the crapulescence. It uses stereoscopic 3D using glasses with differently coloured lenses, meaning everything looked like it was flickering and there was almost always an after imagine on the right and left of objects, due to the fact that the movie was not in black and white so that even if it was colour shifted to be visible through one eye, there was still a shifted image for the other.

Review: Def Jam Icon (Xbox 360, PS3)

defjamicon.jpgI wanted to give you some first impressions a while ago when the demo hit Xbox Live, but it was too short to fully try out the game’s features. Also, I wasn’t too sure about the new direction EA decided to take with the series, so I decided to wait until I could find it used. For those of you who don’t already know, for reasons known only to themselves, EA decided to hand the Def Jam brand off to EA Chicago, the creators of the Fight Night series. Many players agree that it was just fine with developer AKI, but Kudo Tsunoda had his own ideas for the series, mainly integrating the music into the game engine, and making use of the analog sticks in a manner similar to Fight Night. It’s clearly not gonna be for everyone, and there are a few areas that could use some work, but for the most part, it’s a bold new direction for the series.

Justice League: The New Frontier Animated Preview

I was browsing through my feeds this afternoon, specifically the Blogs@Newsarama feed and saw the following preview posted to YouTube. It looks pretty interesting. It will be based off of Darwyn Cooke’s comic that was highly influenced by the silver age of DC comics. This trailer was shown at SDCC and will apparently be released in Spring 2008, though the B@N post says February 2008. Keep your eyes open for more info and feel free to share any thoughts on the trailer in the comments!

Wii firmware updated to 3.0U: TIME GET!

Yes ladies and gentlemen the Wii finally gets another firmware update today, bringing the system up to 3.0U. The primary accomplishments of this update? A fairly major overhaul to the Wii Shop Channel and a clock on the main screen. Hey it’s not exactly loading games off an SD card, but we’ll take what we can get. For anyone curious about the Wii’s new abilities, we’ve got the full list of known changes after the jump.
