Last night, Sony held its big press conference. Sony, along with various third party developers, had quite a few surprises this year. Sony showed off a lot of console exclusives, or at least timed exclusives, ending with gameplay footage from Uncharted 4. So what’s with the picture of Ryo Hazuki? During the conference, Yu Suzuki announced his desire to create Shenmue 3 on PC and PS4. However, if fans wanted it, they’d have to help fund it by way of a Kickstarter that went up during the show. The Kickstarter reached $1 million within 9 hours and as of this morning, is close to 2.5 Million. It’s safe to say, fans will finally be seeing the last installment to the Shenmue Trilogy. There were more amazing things that came out of the press conference as well. While I’m not gonna go over everything, below are the bigger footnotes.
First and foremost, The Last Guardian is coming. For real this time. Really. For Real. Like really. I mean seriously, I had been contemplating putting it on not only the last installment of canceled games, but the one before that. Not only is it coming, but it will also be here next spring!
Square Enix had some surprises of their own. The company finally confirmed that a remake of Final Fantasy VII is finally on its way. It will be on PS4 first but will presumably be hitting other systems sometime afterwards.
There is another Final Fantasy title on its way as well. Final Fantasy World, a.k.a The game they announced just before they announced the FF remake obviously looks to have a more lighter direction. It’s also coming first to PS4 and Vita, with other systems presumably following. On the western side of things, We saw more of the new Hitman title Square Enix announced over a year ago.
Sony showed off a couple of new IPs they had. Guerrilla Games (Killzone) is currently working on Horizon: New Dawn, a title that takes place after the apocalypse of the world as we know it now as humanity rebuilds and civilization begins all over again. You play as a post-apocalyptic cavewoman while doing battle with robot dinosaurs. Little Big Planet developer Media Molecule is developing Dreams, a game that makes use of a set of sculpting tools to create, well, dreams. It looks like players can use the tools to shape characters and environments.
In a move sure to tick off Xbox fans, Sony revealed that Call of Duty Black Ops 3 dlc, along with the ability to play as Boba Fett in Disney Infinity 3.0 will be hitting Sony’s systems first. Devolver Digital (Hotline Miami, Shadow Warrior 2013) revealed 4 indie games they’ll be publishing on PS4 : Ronin, Eitr, Mother Russia Bleeds, and Crossing Souls.
Nintendo is having their big conference today, so we’ll have that up later this evening along with EA and UbiSoft’s new material. On a non-related note, that Transformers game I mentioned this past weekend? It’s real, and it’s being made by none other than Platinum games (Bayonetta, Madworld, Metal Gear Rising). Players will take control of one of 5 Autobots as they battle decepticons on a cel-shaded world reminiscent of the cartoons. We’ll leave you with gameplay footage below.
