Famicom Dojo Podcast: Now Streaming On Your Yogurt App

I listen to the show in the car and always think up awesome comments and forget them by the time I get back to the page.

Conker’s Bad Fur Day was one of the last games released on the N64, yes. The remake was actually the very last Microsoft published game on the original Xbox.

On the topic of last days of systems, I remember getting strangely disappointed seeing ports of Crazy Taxi on PS2 before the Dreamcast had completely finished the run.  Sonic Adventure 2 was also ported to Gamecube VERY quickly if I recall.  I don’t know if it was the final release, but simultaneous release of Twilight Princess on GC and Wii surely marked the end of an era.
I don’t know if I’ll have nostalgia for the games that I play now any more than the games I played when I was 8. Largely because I can still play them the same way I played before.  Stuff I’ll miss is stuff that can’t be duplicated, like Halo 2 multiplayer.  That game is gone for good.  Metroid will be the same forever.

Finally the lack of Wii U enthusiasm has to be because contrary to the statements made by Nintendo, we still don’t know for sure if it is coming in 2012.  We have no launch lineup, we have no price, no store is taking preorders, all hardware shown has been said to be “not final” and no one in the public has been able to play it.

If Wii U is to release before the holiday season, it will need to be on shelves in 90 days or less.  Combine that with a complete lack of momentum from the stagnant Wii, and the number of people truly excited for the Wii U must number in the tens.

I’ve been a Dojo Podcast listener since the first episode. Thank you, for keeping it interesting. You may think we don’t care, but I for one, really enjoy every episode.

As far as newer anime, Yes Vinnk, it is my honest opinion most of it kinda sucks now. Most anime as of late consists of “slice of life,” nothing really happens, moe-blob shows or ecchi, borderline hentai, fan service. The last anime I enjoyed was “Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.” But, even that was basically an action/sci-fi orgy, built on cliche, culminating in a 27 episode build up, to an intense climax. Basically IMHO, the story driven, fansub, VHS tapes we grew up with, are a cherished thing of the past.

About being a gamer, and not playing many games: I’m in my early 30’s as well. As are a vast majority of people who grew up during “The great console wars of the 80’s 90’s & 2000’s.” Who’d have thought, that most of us would grow to live a life of enduring many of the same stresses our parents had. Bills, jobs, kids, civic duties, etc… It is my belief that our generation is in a state of gaming stagnation, and will probably stay that way until we are retired and/or our children have grown enough to support themselves. I’m predicting in about 20-30 yrs, a nation wide revival of retro/current gaming will explode on the scene, as the first ” true gaming” generation will finally have enough time to thoroughly enjoy our past time hobbies once again.

PS, You guys are still living up to my 5 star I-Tunes rating I gave you about a year ago. Please keep it up! ^_*
