Famicom Dojo Podcast: Games of the Mundane

The Phoenix Wright games are great, but they have no replay-ability (or about the same as a novel), and sometimes which piece of evidence to present can be a little vague.  But the courtroom scenes are where the game really shines.  Nothing can beat the thrill of the moment when you suddenly turnabout the trial’s outcome and and start nailing the real scumbag. Definitely worth a play through of at least the first game.  It’s also kind of amazing that the first three games tell one overarching story.   I’m not that surprised Ace Investigations 2 isn’t coming out in America.  It didn’t seem to have the same thrill as the Ace Attorney games, and the stakes seemed a bit lower.  That being said, we better get Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton, or I will END Capcom.

I may have missed it, but did you mention the “Trauma Center” games at all?  I never played them myself, but I own the first one.  You can trace the concept back to the board game “Operation.” And of course, Tetris is 20th century Russian history simulator, at least according to this video: http://youtu.be/hWTFG3J1CP8

Your discussion of Root Beer reminded me of this scene from DS9: http://youtu.be/vz-MepaJCM4.   And if only Americans like root beer is true, then that adds an interesting extra bit of subtext to the clip, albeit one the writers probably didn’t intend.

Finally, the tanuki is a real animal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanuki. And you could have said “testicle.”  The word isn’t considered vulgar or explicate. Though if you really wanted to be safe you could have said “male gonads.”
