Roundtable topic: Do super heroes belong on TV? NBC picked up Wonder Woman, but sounds like Cape is a bust. Hulk had success long time ago, and animated heroes always do well. Smallville, good or bad, has gone on far too long. Bring some heroes you’d like to see on TV, and think up some character you’d never like to see compromised for a weekly show budget.

The third episode of the Cape was better than the first two.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle would be awesome. Power Girl could be good too, that series of fan videos from a couple of years back was pretty awesome.
I kinda doubt Iron Man would work on a TV Budget.
Ultra by the Luna Brothers could make for a good show that is generally light on effects.
I think one of many complaints I have with Heroes, is that there were some moments when they seemed to cheat the audience out of an awesome climactic fight scene that they should have been shown. And it is not like they wouldn’t show power usage, it was just that they focused on boring stuff most of the time.
Japan seems to do fairly well with superheroes. I have enjoyed several Kamen Rider series, Garo, and the Live Action Cutey Honey Series (Still haven’t seen the live action Sailor Moon though)

But I think Crazy made a really good point, that the super powers and action are just the bait, you won’t hook the audience without some sort of deeper underlying theme. Whether it is dealing with rage issues, alienation, or searching for purpose. Unless it is a comedy series, in which case there probably should be some sort of social commentary to the comedy if it wants to last.
