Warner Bros Bans Female Leads, Boycott Ensues

I can’t wait to see the fallout from all of this.

Anyway… I don’t see how this is really new. It’s been known for years that a female lead isn’t profiteable and that’s why we don’t see more. The reason is whatever from a sexist audience to a lack of proper quality put into movies where a female is known as the lead …

But studios have been avoiding female leads for years just like they put teenagers in all their movies and only ever have black people as the fat comic relief guy or something.

It’s lame that this guy flat out states this boycott but at the end of the day it’s just another comment like I’m sure these people who see us as nothing but wallets say all the time.

Anyway I just ran through the IMDB top 250. It took up until 24 before I found one with a female lead (ironically it’s Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs…) I’m just saying.

That begs the question — are the movies with female leads bad because female leads are unappealing to audiences at large, or just that the movies with female leads are WRITTEN LIKE SHIT?

This is like how Disney has shunned 2D/Cel animation as a viable format because of how well 3D movies do… as if it had nothing to do with the crappy sequels to classic films they’d been churning out over the last five years.

Made that same analogy myself earlier. I don’t doubt a female lead could be just as good as a male one. It’s surely mostly due to the fact that such movies don’t get a serious backing. A movie with a female lead is more likely marketed as a chick flick or some sort of angry girl revenge movie about Stella getting her groove back.

That being said Sailor Moon is the greatest show of all time.

It’s just because they have yet to cast me as a lead in any of their movies…….

I’ll pay 10$ to see that. Now you have to sell the idea to like 100 million other people.

As long as Justice Society and Jonah Hex are put out by DC, I’m not boycotting them. Especially with JLA/Hitman #2 arriving soon…HELL no.

Warners did this because people basically boycotted those chick-led flicks in the first place. The way I see it, you’re only hurting the artists and writers we like at DC by calling for a total boycott. I personally give more of a shit for Geoff Johns and the like than Jodie friggin’ Foster.

Maybe Harry Reid will say something from the Senate floor about it this week 😛

Like everyone else is saying. Instead of cutting female leads they should come up with more interesting plots.

I know I didn’t want to see that movie because it looked majorly depressing and gave away any surprise twists it could possibly have in the previews. “My boyfriend was beaten to death!” “I just killed someone tonight!”

That 15 second preview pretty much saves you 8 bucks.

Boycotts are difficult to keep up and never work. No thanks.

If more of these female ‘leads” had their tits out, you’d see box office numbers flying through the roof.

This is a retarded move, but I will not be boycotting DC comics because of it. No reason good writers and artists should suffer. I’m certainly not going to start boycotting Six Flags. I think you’ll find that AOL/Time Warner owns more than you may realize; not just movies, television, and comics.

Besides, if I boycotted every single company or entity that did something shitty then I’d be boycotting just about everything in existence; no more video games, movies, clothes, food, stores to buy all of these things.

That’s retarded. Maybe those movies did badly because they sucked. The following is spoilerish if you give a shit:

My mom has some sort of lesbo vibe for Jodie Foster, so I went along with her when she went to see “the Brave One”. It was the tritest, suckiest piece of suck it could’ve possibly been. The plot was unfocused. The dialogue ranges from banal to just plain silly. The people and scenarios are completely black and white. They could’ve made it interesting by having her kill someone that turns out didn’t deserve it, but then that would’ve been too thought-provoking and intelligent. It could’ve been a deep flick about one woman’s descent into madness, but instead it morphs to and from being your random cop gets the bad guy. (But since she’s a woman, she has to be saved!)

No Dayla, you don’t have to see it. It unfolds exactly the way you think it will and it ends exactly the way you think it’s going to. Will she get revenge? Will be saved from her killing rampage? Will she get her dog back? You already know the answers!

Hollywood can’t write good female leads worth a crap. Look at Tomb Raider. That could’ve been the shit and they gave us some cock and bull story about a girl and her daddy. What about boycotting suck-ass tardo scripts like “the Brave One” instead declaring cinema-jihad on female-lead films and making this a sexist thing?

As for the boycott, I don’t really buy anything from WB anyway. Now I seriously won’t be encouraged to. Fuck ’em. Seriously. Bastards.
