ECTO-1 For Sale

The legendary 1959 Cadillac ambulance that became the vehicle for the Ghostbusters is on the auction block.

Hemmings, an automotive auctioneer and marketplace, has the car listed as on sale starting at a reasonable $149,998(with no money down!). Currently residing in Volo, Illinois at the Volo Auto Museum, this car is not the actual car used in the filming of Ghostbusters or its sequel. This is the beat up vehicle Dan Akroyd’s character Ray purchases early in the first film and comically lists its shortcomings. It was simply leased for that scene to be filmed, and only after production of the movie had been completed did the studio go back and fund the conversion of the classic Miller-Meteor to the specifications of the ECTO-1.

Listing says everything inside is completely restored with leather seats, vintage air conditioning, and all the lights and the distinctive siren heard in the movie are working.

So… who wants to co-sign a car loan for me? I’m totally good for it.

There was this sweet Ghostbusters game for the Apple ][ that I loved to DEATH (no pun intended). You started your little Ghostbusters franchise and decided how to spend your money at the start, then you went around catching ghosts and getting more cash, which meant better ghost-catching equipment and cooler cars. Eventually you had to get past the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and cross the streams to win the game.

God, it was glorious.

I think the only game that rivaled it was the ALF game.

There was a horrible port of it on the NES. I remember the Sega Master System version was massively superior.

Which also reminds me how SMS games always looked and sounded better than anything on the NES. Too bad most of them sucked ass.

The NES version isn’t quite a port, it’s more like a graphical upgrade with some changes to gameplay and level design (I assume because of the greater power the NES offered over the Apple ][ ).

Actually, this car was not in Ghostbusters, or Ghostbusters 2, or any Ghostbusters movie at all. Both films featured a 1959 Cadillac Miller Meteor combination (hearse/ambulance) as the Ecto 1, and Ecto 1a (GB2), and, yes, even the black primered version from the beginning of the film. This car is a 1959 Cadillac Eureka combo, as identified by the subtle difference in roofline and rearmost side windows. Maybe the real Ecto 1 would be worth $150k, but this one is definately NOT the real one.

so if this car is 150k whouldnt be a rip off u chould just buy a cadillac cheaper and make it your self u propaly save over 60k worth of money along with not paying for something thats not even a ghostbuster car

Exactly. These cars are hard to come by, but I Have seen them for sale on occasion. If you aren’t concerned with accuracy, which, apparently George Barris (who built this replica) wasn’t, you could easily find an early ’60s ambulance to refurb and customize. $150k is a joke!
