Batwoman Beyond

The New York Times has outed the latest edition to the Batman extended family.
Batwoman will appear in “52” issue 11, scheduled for release in July.
While Dan Didio spoke of her reintroduction to comics (she was a Silver Age character) as a lesbain socialite and issues that brings to the table, I can’t help but geek out that her costume is a dead ringer for Batman Beyond.

I’m NOT holding out for her, because I’ve actually been reading the OYL stuff — anyone who could think it’s her would be terribly confused by her very non-Batwoman and still-crippled presence in the current Birds of Prey.

I’m referring to something that’s in line with what’s going on in already in 52, but we have this line here that explains it all:

“In her latest incarnation, Batwoman is a wealthy, buxom lipstick lesbian who has a history with Renee Montoya, an ex-police detective who has a starring role in ’52.'”

See, before reading that, I thought it might BE Montoya (hence, lesbian), but I guess that wouldn’t have made any sense. Still, I was close in that it had to do with her storyline.

Not bad for someone who didn’t read the article.
