Who shoots first NOW? Original Star Wars Trilogy to get un-edited, unspecialized release on DVD.

In a turn of events that frankly shocks me, Lucasfilm has decided to release a completely unmolested DVD release of the original Star Wars Trilogy: episodes IV, V, and VI.

You’ll recall slight edits being made to the THX remaster released on VHS in the 90s, and massive CG insertion to the 1997 theatrical re-release in the special editions.� The most recent release in 2004 on dvd added even more CG work, and even went to far as to replace some performances with prequel actors.

Needless to say not a lot of fans were happy, but since George Lucas had complete control, we had to wait until he changed his mind.

NOW HE HAS.

Celebrate, my friends.� Let us put our overplayed Bootlegs of CBS/FOX VHS tapes and LaserDiscs to rest and enjoy not what was intended by the creator, but what was delivered, and what we fell in love with.

Unbelieveable. I really can’t believe it. I never expected this would really happen… and here we are. Well needless to say I’m ecstatic. Glad I didn’t waste my money on the asstastic 2004 release.

I got it as a gift. Reading the fine print there, it sounds like yoy get the special editions AND the theatrical versions in this new set. great, so now I can have an extra copy of special edition…

As someone who always said I wouldn’t buy these movies unless I found the CBS-FOX tapes, I’ll be a little sad to let that pretension go. It’s easy to see why they’d do this, though. Someone asked a bunch of nerds and found out there was another few million dollars in this idea.

I won’t believe it, though, until the product is out and its legitemacy confirmed. I have particular difficulty believing they’d reinstate the nipple slip in Jedi.

Nipple slip!

I saw Jedi so many times, and I never even noticed that until many years after the fact.

Maybe it was because at the time (I was like what, three? four?) it didn’t occur to me that the chick didn’t really have tentacles for a head, and that she just might be some really hot dancer with lots of makeup on…
