You all KNOW I'm excited, but I need to articulate it better.
http://bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?link=Halo3Announcement

halo 2 spoilers follow....

So if you recall at the end of Halo 2, Chief is returning to Earth with that weird ship.  Cortana is stuck on Delta Halo with the plant, and Johnson & The Arbiter had teamed up to kill Tartarus.  I joined in the "no ending?  wtf" comments when I first beat the game, but upon reflection, its actually a great ending because it demands the final part so the sequel doesn't just feel tacked on.

The trailer is obviously Earth, and I'm betting we're back in Africa.  the Cortana voice over is creepy, fully implying her relationship with that plant monster thing has been very influential.  The Covenant fleet come out of nowhere bearing down on the hole in the ground.  Whats down there?  This is why they wanted to get to earth all along, they didn't even realize the Humans would be there because their bozo prophecy and comments from Moniters like 343 Guilty Spark failed to mention that Earth is the human homeworld.'

Oh, we know so little, but its so damn exciting to know its definitely definitely definitely coming.  and since its the "third and final game in the Halo trilogy" I'm hoping for a hell of an ending this time!

FUCK THEM UP CHIEF.

I never really got into Halo.  The multiplayer is pretty good, but the single player always bored me.  The fact that so many hail it as the greatest game ever (when it's a good game, at best) only fills me with more animosity towards the game.  Sorry, pal.

I care, it's just that you put it so succintly that there's really nothing to add.

I'll certainly enjoy a Halo game that actually runs well on a 360, that's for sure.

Fair enough.  I found myself engaged by the story of both games to actually consider reading the books. and with a fall 2007 release i might end up reading them to hold over a little longer.

Fair enough.  I found myself engaged by the story of both games to actually consider reading the books. and with a fall 2007 release i might end up reading them to hold over a little longer.

The books are good.  THey're not "War and Peace" by any means, but they do open up a nice window into the events that proceeded Halo and the setup for Halo 2.  Plus, they're fairly quick reads.

I'm too excited for this one also.  Not for the multiplayer (I'm sure I'll suck just as much this time around), but for the story, and to see what Bungie can squeeze out of the 360.  The amount of difference between Halo and Halo 2 shows that they can really work the hardware once they've had a chance to play with it.  Considering how early it is, and the fact that it was being rendered real-time on the 360, I can't begin to fathom the finished product.  I know where' I'll be that midnight.  Again.

One last thing on it too.  Until you hear it on a 5.1 setup, you can't get the full effect.  It's just...amazing.  There's no other word for it.  I'd watched the trailer about a half dozen times before I got home and could watch it on the 360...and it was totally mind-blowing.

More updates reading into the trailer:

That hole is definitely where New Mombassa used to be.  The capitol ship that went in slipspace/warp/lightspeed/whatever and blew up the city after Chief kills the Scarab... yeah, they weren't trying to get away, it was just an easy way of making a big enough hole to get at the portal bureid under the city.  Earth has been under Covenant control ever since, with more and more ships arriving...

Unless it involves girls in bikinis playing volleyball or piniatas I'm not really interested in much that makes it to the X-Box.  My interests just don't mesh with what the system is geared towards.

Not Halo 3, but its kinda funny how frustrating it must be for them to make an episode of Red vs Blue.

I played a bit of Halo 1, but never got into it. But I do love Red Vs Blue.

Yea, making an episode sure looks like a pain in the ass...

I missed this one before...there were jackasses actually speculating that Bungie (a wholly owned subsidy of Microsoft) would be putting out their flagship title on the PS3 or Wii?!?!?!?!?!?

I've seen and heard plenty of stupid shit in my lifetime...but that is really up there...

Yup.  My favorite one was that after Microsoft tanks, Halo 4 will be on Wii.  Someone actually made a mock up of a Playstation 3 Halo cover.
